Can I buy a Prime in Florida?

I have seen some comments about the Southeast Toyota dealers not wanting to sell the Prime. I know that if you go to the Toyota web site, put in a Florida zip and try to "build" a Prime, you get an error message. I did visit my local dealer and they said they could order me one but they sure weren't very encouraging about when and if it would arrive. I don't mind waiting as I still have 4 months left on a current lease - but I would mind if I placed an order and 3 or 4 months later I find that I'm not really going to see the car after all.

What assurances do I have that they have actually placed the order with Toyota? I see here on Prius Chat when people order their cars they have paperwork that tells them when it is being shipped, expected to arrive, etc. How do you obtain that type of data?

I did look into purchasing the car in another state (talked to Dianne yesterday - such a nice person and so willing to help) but there are issues regarding financing and titles, etc. that complicate that type of transaction.

So - I guess I'm trying to understand the process and thought I would ask the experts.

    Thanks -

Mary Lou (no longer in Ohio)

unfortunately, no one understands the processes at southeast florida. if you look at the prime pricing thread, you may find it worth your while to do the necessary research to buy in the northeast, and drive back to florida. up to $5,000. off is worth a little hard work. all the best!(y)

I'd ask a local dealer how shipments are coming along. I get the impression from comments here and elsewhere (as well as when mine is expected to come in) that they're starting right around now to ship a bit more widely around the US. More seem to be coming into the middle part of the country, where until now it has been mostly west coast plus a fair amount on the east coast, especially northeast.

I was fortunate to by the only Prime my local dealer ever got on their lot. They told me that the only way they got that one was because they were allowed a few times a year to order directly from Toyota and bypass Southeast Toyota Distributors. They got it on December 2nd and I looked at it December 3rd. Loved it so much that I bought it at full retail that day. They did kiddingly complain that I was taking their only one and wouldn't be able to show it off. I did offer for them to make my payments for me in exchange of "showing it off" but they didn't go for it. Lol. As of today, I was told that they could order one for anyone that wanted one but I haven't seen or heard the details of how fast that process would take. I would personally recommend going out of the Southeast region of the country to buy one. That way you know you will get one, won't have to wait to get one, and most likely get a deal in price because of Toyota and their local dealer incentives in discounts because of the increased supply available. Hope you have good luck either way you go in your purchase. I feel unique in my area. I haven't seen another Prime on the road yet! :)

Call Berlin City Toyota in Portland, ME, or Lee Toyota in Topsham, ME. Toyota is offering $2500 off in NE region until July 5, but that's been renewed several months. Maine dealers are discounting another $2500 or so. I recently bought a Prime in NY and drove it home to CO; would have bought in Maine if they had trim/color I wanted.

Hey Mary Lou in the Villages rather than Ohio now. It looks like Earl Stewart Toyota in North Palm Beach has a white Plus in stock. Or, you can always head up here to Fitzgerald Toyota in Maryland. They have Primes in stock and they also have other dealerships in Florida so it might be an easy transaction for you to buy here. Good luck.

The Prius Prime Premium, middle level, was sold between the day I test drove it and the next day I wanted to test EV. So I found a Prius Prime Plus, lowest level, in Rhode Island for MSRP and put a $500 deposit on it and bought a low-cost flight to Rhode Island while we worked out the financing.

A combination of savings and Toyota finance bought the car and I flew up to drive it back. Never looked back!

I just passed 5,400 miles on the car and it remains a quiet, vibration free, stealth car that still has 1/4 tank remaining from January. I didn't check tonight but the tank trip meter should be 1,400 miles of which 2/3 were home charger and 1/3 were 'free' from clueful shopping centers and merchants. With local electric rates of $0.10/kWh, I'm getting effectively $1.30/gal for my home-charged, EV miles.

Looks like we may need to use fuel stabilizer with these cars.:)

I have my Prius Prime in an over 55 golf cart community near Tampa. I can run with the golf carts now and never have to make a trip to the gas station!
I bought it in NJ to get the $2,500 customer cash. Primary residence is in PA.

I would hope not. Because of emission regulations, a car gas tank is more tightly sealed than the plastic can used for lawn mower gas. Then a PHEV should have a tighter one than a typical car. In the event that gas isn't used within some predetermined time, PHEVs have fuel maintenance modes to burn off some of the old gas.

the pip recommended 6 month max on fuel in tank, i think prime has extended to a year. pip runs the engine every 124 miles if it hasn't run in the interim. no one can find a spec for prime, and some claim over a thousand miles with no engine operation.

I was thinking about taking my wife to the Mississippi casinos. Leave with a full tank and still get home with empty pockets.

I ordered my Prime in early March and just got it last week, so a good 4 months. (South Carolina, so SE Toyota)

I have the only Prime my dealer ever sold, so that's a bit of a pain, and they weren't very forthcoming with info -- I just basically had to wait for them.

I ordered my Prime Advanced Friday June 30, and they had to ask for permission just to order it. I just found out today from the "Allocation analyst" in Houston. . . . .

Thank you for emailing the signed buyers order. Your Prius Prime SOVR request has been approved and will be part of the September Production Order. ETA will be October/November to the VPC.

You will receive another email from Distribution once it has been placed in your inventory by the end of August.

They certainly are in no hurry, but I guess I'm supposed to kiss arse just for permission to ask to build one if you're not on the NE or West coast. It'll be nice once it arrives but this has dampened my enthusiasm / expectations. (Yes, the dealer knows)

I live in Florida and bought my prime in NJ. Took a plane then the auto train back. I saw one prime at a dealer in Tampa it was marked up 5,000 dollars. I haven't seen any on the road except for mine.
