In my 3rd gen 2011 Prius, I could set the cruise control as low as 23.5 mph. That's convenient because the speed limit in residential areas is 25 mph, and there are some long residential roads here with no stop signs.

So I was disappointed to discover that the minimum cruise control speed in my 4th gen 2017 Prius is 28 mph. Now in residential areas I have to try to keep the speed steady manually. I know, first-world problems, but still.

I don't think this would keep anyone from buying a 4th gen (and it's so much better than the 3rd gen in so many other ways), but still, I wanted to get this info out there.

Not a straight answer to your question, but have you tried setting it to 28 mph and then using the cruise stick to nudge it slower it to below 25mph? I've been able to do this in all my other Toyotas and get them under 25 mph while still in cruise when you could not set them that way directly.

Mine will only set at 45km/hr (which is about 28 mph I think), but, with the speedometer 2 km/hr optimistic, it is close. Check how accurate yours is against your GPS - you've got different t y res from me.

My previous 2 FORDs and a KIA would go to 40km/hr indicated.

Setting to 28 mph and then trying to nudge down to 25 mph doesn't work; it stays stuck at 28 mph.

Is it that big of a deal to go 3MPH over the speed limit in Texas? I know its a residential area but in Florida some people fly down residential roads and I really doubt going 3 over will be that big of a deal. Also heads up if you get the 15" rims the speedometer is 2MPH off. So in all actuality you would be going 1 MPH over the limit.

It's a big deal to me. I respect the law, and more importantly the reasoning behind it. On one stretch of roadway I ride, a child was killed by a car going 30 mph, he ran out into the roadway and the driver didn't have enough time to stop. Neighbors are petitioning to reduce the speed limit to 25. Road injuries and fatalities are almost exclusively caused by people who break the law. I won't be one of them.

Have you checked your speedo against a GPS? Almost no speedos are accurate.

Kudos to you good sir. I am the same. I see people driving like incomplete retards on roads regardless of speed limit/signs/laws. Its worse for me because I live in #15: The Best and Worst Drivers By City | QuoteWizard

Have you thought of setting the speed limiter to 25MPH so the maximum speed you can drive up to is 25MPH rather than just setting it at a constant 25MPH.

Having said that I haven't checked how low you can set the limiter, I seem to remember seeing 25MPH on my UK car when have nudged the lever, but I will need to check that out.

I use the limiter a lot in 30MPH zones

I don't think they have the speed limiter on the US Prius.

Amazing the differences we have. I think we get the better deal.

Except in the aftermarket department, maybe.
