What else to replace as part of an engine swap?

    Hello,

    My car is now going through a quart of oil per < 1000 miles. Either I am the first person in the whole world to mess up a PCV valve replacement, or it is time to get a new engine (~285k miles).

    I have a target on a tested, low-mileage, used engine, as well as a trusted mechanic who has done a Gen 2 engine swap before. Now all I need to solve is the details.

    As long as the engine is out of the car, is there anything else to replace?

    Already on my list:
    Driver's side CV joint -- The rubber bootie disappeared some 2500 miles ago, so at this point the grease is all but gone...

    Three-way valve -- The code P1121 is coming up once in awhile, so no reason why not

    Things I have thought of:
    Radiator Hoses -- But which ones? A quick answer seems to be "all of them". How do I buy them?
    Does the Gen 2 have other hoses which should be replaced?

    Transaxel -- I don't have any of the symptons listed by luciousgarage, but the cost of the part is relatively low compared with the cost of labour to fix it later if it does go, especially given I don't know whether the fluid was ever changed before I owned it. Is there any data on how long the transaxel lasts?

    Any other things that are likely to give out where the cost to repair is mostly labour?

    Catalytic converter and its associated two sensors (oxygen and fuel mixture ratio) may also be going bad since your car is burning a lot of oil.

    Thank you for the suggestion! I hadn't thought of it, but you're darn right that the cat is likely sick. From what I can see, it looks like the major cost to replace that one is the actual part plus about an hour of labor, so unless it is likely to damage the replacement engine, I'll hang on to it until it manifests problems.

    you can get a cheap aftermarket if your state allows.
