I Live in LA as well and have driven both the regular Plug in and own a Prime now. Its a no brainer, Prime all the way, every day. If you drive 75 miles a day, the Dynamic Radar Cruise control at any speed is a GAME CHANGER. Trust me. You dont have to use your brake or gas, the car adjusts to all speeds on the free way. You can also be in EV Mode at 84 mph. With the old plug in, you couldn't go above 60 mph. There are a million other reasons, but trust me, The Prime is the car.

Also I had 1st Gen 2012 PIP, which you would be buying used, should you choose that option. Mine only got 9 miles of EV range at best, after a couple years. It would quickly change over to ICE engine if you drove normally, and theoretically, the HOV benefit for that model is due to expire Jan 1, 2019. It is extremely reliable, but is merely an appliance whereas the Prime is a luxurious, safety enveloped, reliable, plug-in fun automobile. Again, if money is not a concern, and you drive a ton, like I do in Socal (25-35K/year), the Prime is definitely the choice here. Hopefully your clients will let you plug in like many of mine do!

If money truly is not a concern...why don't you just spend a little bit more and get a used Tesla Model S. More luxurious, safer, and much much more fun than a Prius ever could dream to be. Again...if we are truly not caring about money...a used Tesla isn't much more expensive. (although not burning any gas could save you some money)

Yeah, but he's driving up to 70miles per day, AND if like me, he has someone in San Clemente call him at the last minute for service, which happens fairly frequently in my field, IT, then he's faced with range anxiety and the need for a "Quick Fix", and if like my buddy, he has a power outage (1100 or so homes lost power in LA, about a week ago), then he is as we say in the vernacular, or in cabinet-making, screwed!!
Tesla and all EV vehicles' BIG problem remains lack of sufficient infrastructure that can provide QUICK, reliable energy reload almost everywhere!! That's why I couldn't even consider all electric, at this time. And of course there's the price!!

another example is the Meijer's Charge Point location in my area. Charge Point said is was available, got there and both stations were dead with the error message "low line voltage"

So you aren't familiar with the Tesla Supercharger network? And what did you pay for your Prime? There are often low 30's Tesla's available.

Not in my area. And I charge at home.
And my car is brand new with adjusted price of under $26k AND no range anxiety whatsoever!!! Sorry Charlie, but I got it, Toyota and I'm a happy camper!
Besides, I'm making America Great again by buying American oil, also to help the poor American Oil companies with my hybrid. Those nasty electrics refuse to be patriotic and buy our gasoline!!
Oh wait, somebody says we get a lot of our oil from overseas; never mind!!
    Har, har
    Love my Prime!!

dang...i just wanted some opinions...no need to take anything personally.

Never really said money wasn't a concern, just said if it's worth it the $10k difference with the prime wouldn't be an issue for me.

Nice! Great setup, isn't it? :)

Not to hijack the thread, but does Nebraska not have any incentive for a charger for an EV vehicle? In Ontario, they cover 50% of the cost, so it made lots of sense to get it. Of course, your driving patterns (and if you bought used) also influence the decision.

We got over $12k off our Leaf from government incentives. It's crazy that more people don't know about this, we still get tons of questions about the Leaf... "What is that??". LOL

Definitely a great set up. Will get even better when we replace the PiP with a Model 3 in a couple years. And unfortunately Nebraska is too old school and conservative to have any credits for EVSE's. Heck, I had to even pay an extra tax when I registered the vehicle. And yes, I agree, I don't think people realize how cheap Leaf's are.

Yep, the ignorance really is amazing.

And when I said 'charger', I did in fact mean EVSE. LOL.
