I have a 2017 4 touring. Today I drove 158 miles round trip 50/50 Hwy and side streets both rural and city and averaged 56.3 mpgs. However I averaged 47 mggs on an 800 mile recent trip. II have exactly 4999 on the odometer. I have averaged 50.3 mpgs from owning it with 10 miles on it. My 2010 prius 2 averaged 47.4 over 180k.

I recommend the 15s for anyone driving a lot of miles. I can tell you the cost differential is quite a bit with the 17" over the 15" which is one of the reasons I didn't want touring or a four. Plus I didn't want leather on my new car as well due to the hot florida sun.

Could you please give your reasoning/details for that conclusion?

    17" tires are more expensive.

Oh, I wasn't expecting the obvious. More like assuming the running costs were higher...

17" tire cost 147.09 at tire rack
15" cost 92.93 at tire rack.
55$ per tire difference. 600 vs 400 for a set plus the hit in mpg expense.

The shame of it is that in all of Toyota's marketing materials and government monitored disclosures, the MPG for Prius Models which only come with 17" Tires is Identical to those models which only come with 15" Tires (with the exception of the Eco version, of course).

    Moral of the story?

Giving the consumer misleading information is fine (and may even get a marketing manager a promotion for his cleaverness) provided you find a way to game the system, and adhere to the letter of the law.

Newly appointed member of the 700 Club!!! 2017 Prius Three here...Recently learned how to effectively manage the car with perfection...

I weigh 180lbs and during my trip I carried an easy 300lb + load of beverages...

The insane terrain I travel on coupled to the weight this car is capable of much more.
