Hello all I have an ac problem. 2005 with 218k. The car cools when going down the road but warms considerably in traffic and when you come to a stop. And seem to be worse when driven and parked then back in and driven after shopping extra. The compressor comes on. The fans both work and blow toward the engine. All coolant levels correct and pumping. The blower inside works fine. Had a buddy check pressures with never used before gauges. Added a touch of pure 134a with no change. The pressures were varrying. The low pressure line would spike then go back to normal likewise the high. We decided to reclaim pull a vacume and refill with proper weight. No change!! I used the hold the auto and recirc buttons on the steering wheel apply brake then ready. Got codes 21 and 42 blinking on the display. Does anyone know what these codes are? Thanks in advance

What's Pure 134a coolant? You should have used coolant for Hybrid...

What you describe is an airflow problem for the condenser. Check for dirt, bugs, leaves, or anything else that could diminish airflow thru the radiator and condenser.

    Yup, airflow not refrigerant problems.

I did glance at the condenser didn't look too bad but is hard to see. I will blow it out and wash it down and see if that helps thanks for the reply. But what about the ac code 42 ? I found one comment on line that dtc b1442 was air inlet damper control servo motor circuit. Things to check were air inlet motor , air conditioning harness assembly , ac amplifier. Does this sound correct and would this have anything to do with the issue or is this a seperate issue?

Check your radiator/condenser fans. They not be working. When the cooling system is operating, they should cycle on and off to maintain the needed airflow over the condenser.

When you're moving, they are usually off as there is sufficient airflow.
