Wow! I suspect your DRCC is not working correctly and you need to take it back to the dealer.

How so? The way he described it seems to be how Toyota's DRCC works.

Bottom line - you are driving the car and must be diligent at all times. Proclamations of self driving cars in the near future seem impossible to me. There are too many situations, variables, sudden changes. The human brain still decides

    To quote liquidtenmillion:-

I mentioned my earlier comment because If you come up to a red light with cars already stopped, but you're not already tracking someone, the car will not recognize the stopped cars and will slam into them at full speed. Every single time, it's just how it works.

    So, you're saying that's correct???

That is 100% correct. DRCC will NOT recognize a stopped car, just try it yourself. PCS will recognize it, and it will show BRAKE in red and flash and beep, but that is for rapid emergency last millisecond braking, you will still hit the car. That is how DRCC/PCS work.

Now if you are ALREADY stopped at a red light and turn DRCC on it will see the car in front of you if it is already stopped too. You are traveling in the same direction at the same speed. DRCC does not react if speed differences are too great, it says so in the manual and has been tested. If you are doing 120mph and come up on someone traveling 5mph DRCC will ignore that too. Maybe even 70 to 10. I don't think the actual maximum speed differences is known. If you are 70 and approach someone going 40, it will slow down. But will it if they are going 20? I know for a fact it won't if I'm doing 45 coming up on someone doing 0. I've tested that under controlled circumstances. I don't know the maximum/minimums/cutoffs.

As far as DRCC knows in that situation it is just a stationary metal sign/plate or the like.

Most of those situations, variables and sudden changes are caused by human drivers though. Eliminate them and you eliminate most of those situations.

That is correct. It's meant for cruising and not for detecting stopped vehicles (that's what PCS is for.... that's separate from DRCC). I've had DRCC for nearly 8 years and I've tried it out several times (foot hovering on the brake pedal obviously).

It's probably programmed that way to reduce false positives (e.g. a metal sign on the highway or the metal railings).

OK! Can't say I've noticed that in my limited experience to date. (y)

Or you're smart enough not to try DRCC as you approach a stopped vehicle. ;)
