the first thing I do to any prius I buy is disconnect that hatch area cargo light, then seal all the seams on the roof to avoid a swimming pool in the battery area

The Prius is very unique battery health wise because it has no starter motor so with a starter motor you can instantly hear if the 12 volt battery is getting soft. It does the slow starter sound or maybe you just hear the starter solenoid click and you go oh crap a dead battery.
You get no warning with a Prius......I take that back you do get a warning with a bad 12 volt battery.

The dashboard flashes a red exclamation point upon start up just like a bulb check. All the regular lights come on as usual with the added red exclamation point. Only flashes for a second and does not store a code.
It's pretty noticeable as it does not show with the routine start up bulb check. But
Many people do not notice. I noticed when mine refused to hold a charge and went down to 11.4 volts.

So as a long term service of that battery I put my charger on it monthly. My interest is to see how long it takes
To get a good charge on it. If all of a sudden it takes forever to charge it up you know it's about to leave you.
The AGM starts to fail really fast. Within one month it went from soft on the charger to throwing the red exclamation point. I saw it coming and got a yellow top.
