Will there be mirror-integrated turn signals on 2018?

...or is this too dramatic a change mid-cycle? Hard to believe that with all the emphasis on safety by Toyota and with far lesser cars standardizing this feature, Toyota won't put it on the Prius.

I could see it being retrofitted by Toyota with that removal of that chrome piece. But if they don't already have it in Japan then I'd wager it's not in the works. Is it that much of a safety enhancement on such a small car? I suppose the extra blinker couldn't hurt.

Speaking of which I need to put black tape on that chrome edge at the mirror housing. Shiny shiny

I'm also surprised Prius didn't receive this on the 2016 G4 redo. Why didn't it? It's certainly not costly nor complicated. Several recent Scion models have mirror turn signals (I'm fairly sure the original tC had them back in what, 2006?). Ditto for the Prius C and Yaris iA. Our G4 Prius should absolutely be euipped with these.

Canada has it. Prime USA models doesn't have them, even at $34,000. Completely mystified why that feature is missing. We have motorized side mirrors on both L & R, side mirrors with embedded LED warnings for LKA, puddle lights on the doors, bi-level heated seats with electric 8-way power, but no basic simple signal mirrors? It must cost Toyota MORE money to have multiple versions of the side mirrors for different countries than if they just had one standard OEM mirror from the get-go. Every cheapo Prius C has the things!

The basic design of the Prius side mirror assemblies and several of their parts are common in all markets. As I noted in a previous thread, the side turn signal lights, if present, are installed in the space where a metalized plastic blank is found on cars made for the U.S. market. There are differences other than the turn signals, however: not all models and grades have the Blind Spot Monitor System, and the mirrors themselves differ because of national regulations.

^What he said. We've asked for it since Gen 2 but Toyota seems content to leave it out.

No we don't. No signal mirrors here.

Also, the mirrors have BSM warnings not LKA warnings and there are no puddle lights (the ones you refer to are called door courtesy lights. Puddle lamps are lights mounted on the underside of the mirrors).

Some Gen 3 owners have opted to retrofit theirs with an aftermarket one that one-ups the factory signal light mirrors. It included the signal light (of course), puddle lamps and mirror accent lights (basically where the signal lights are, it's a dim white LED when the parking lights or headlights are on. They become amber when you use the turn signals). And some added auto-folding mirrors.

Must be some kind of North American thang then. Because, if I've got 'em and Alan's got 'em, well.....
.. they must be available at the factory!

Maybe a Right Hand Drive thing? I wonder if they're all CONVEX mirrors around the world - I hate them, far prefer a flat one.

Our passenger side mirror is convex. The driver's side one is not.

Must be a region-related thing. My 2016 European car has mirror turn signals.

IT would be helpful if @Prius Team would take some notes and could provide us with insight on this decision. They are the Toyota US Prius/Prime/Mirai marketing team and likely have input in the decision making for the US market.

I am not sure how to help for Canada, though.

The Prius is supposed "to go before".
Increasingly, it is now lagging behind. Perhaps a name change is appropriate. SKS and other features were forward looking. Now the Prius has fewer advanced features that its competition.

On my UK excel the door mirrors are convex on the last 1.5" of the outer edge and have turn signals, BSM and electronically fold.

Mine are convex on the entire mirror, with the outer 38mm to the outer edge even more convex. And left and right seem to be different convex radii (though it could be that I'm closer to the driver's side mirror). I find they're difficult to estimate distances to cars in the side lane, and for reverse parking they're even worse.

if kia niro has them, and sales start edging past prius, toyota might change their mind. but it's all about sales. if they could sell you one without a steering wheel, they'd be happy to.

They would be happy to sell ones without wheels too, (wheels optional extra) if they could do that.

Each regional Toyota distributor orders the car with the options they feel will sell, and/or equipped to a price point. So Toyota US would order slightly different packages than Toyota Canada etc. Complain to Toyota US.
