What do the rims look like under the caps on the Prime's wheels?

They go in the the attic until the vehicle gets traded or sold. I just brought mine back down from the attic in prep for the trade when my Prime arrives.

    Yes, much.

I am thinking of building a hanging Calder-type mobile artwork with useless car parts, and the wheel covers might play a prominent role.

I suspect they don't come with centre caps, from either source.

To my eye at least, they're a little too blingy, especially in chrome.

I managed to snag a used set of PIP rims, also 15", greatly prefer that look. I've yet to wangle a way to swap from our OEM 3rd Gen 17" rims, though.

Still on the fence myself. But ready, for sometime down the road.

If you notice how little the sidewall sticks out from the rim, and you do much parallel parking, the rims WILL get curbed. It will be nice to have the hub caps to put back on when you trade it in.

I have to wonder why the 17" tires on Prius, not a performance car. I've never driven Prius with bigger tires, but it cost more to replace tires, it lowers mileage, I think I will stick with 15" over larger ones.

I parallel park all the time and have never scuffed a tire or wheel since 2010. Yes, I get within 5" to the curb. (y)

I find it helps to come back into parking spot at a fairly steep angle, "find" the curb with the tire, then square up in the spot. It's when I come in at a shallow angle I'm more likely to scrape the rim. I've had my share.

For those who took off your plastic wheel covers from the OEM wheels, have you noticed any change in mpg before and after?

Zero change. My 800 miles on one tank was after I removed the covers. I'd say that's telling.

That's good to know. That means if I get another set of wheels without cover for my winter tires, lack of covers would not cause decrease in mpg.

BUT wait. I thought your PRIME is currently being chased by Irma, isn't it??? :cautious:

Yes, I was talking about my 2010 which gets "worse" mileage than the Prime so if there was going to be a mileage problem, the 2010 would have exaggerated it.

We took the covers off day one from the dealership June 8th. Mileage at time of the first tank fill up with 10.05 gallons for $23.10 total mileage on the odometer was 1,692 miles with a 176.9 average date was August 20th. Current charge number is 40.8 and is still continuing to go up. Driving and charging practices described in post on thread "Any one else getting more that 30 per charge?" Third Prius second Plugin plus had a Hybrid Highlander lots of practice getting good milage

So wait, some of you are paying $80 for wheel caps? Isn't that a little......over priced?

    Mendel,
We have a 2012 PIP with the same wheels and was thinking about swapping them on our Prime. Noted the PIP wheels are 6" vs the Prime at 6 1/2" wide. Have you noticed any offset/fit/issues/handling with the PIP wheels on your Prime?

Sorry, I have a 2010 Prius, Canadian Touring, with the 3rd gen 17" rims. I couldn't resist snapping up a set of PIP rims: 15" Prius rims that were designed to not be hidden by a wheel cover are as rare as hen's teeth. I've yet to convince my better half though, that it'd be cool to put them on our car. :(

Yes! Blame Toyota for that, and also all of us who pay that stupid high price. Even Tesla caps are quite a bit less than $75-80.
