Considering buying 2013 exfleet Prius w 110k miles

With that many miles I doubt it was a rental, more likely a company owned (salesman car). If it's had regular maintaince I wouldn't shy away from it if the price was right. I think closer to $8000 would be a good price. Put it in Kelly's blue book and see what it is for a private seller. I think the battery is more affected by time not miles. Make sure the battery state of charge indicator is pretty constant, no rapid up and down movements. You can't go wrong having a good mechanic look at it if they are familiar with a Prius.

 

Also if it's a 2013 it's a Gen.3 I've never seen one without an EV button, but I've never seen a package 1 car either. Could be a barebones package 1 car which would make it worth less. Make sure you are getting what you think your getting. This is the reason you should get it CHEAP.

 

@paprius4030 gave good advice. A fleet-registered car should cost less because it has the fewest features. Also, I'd double check the car and the year. 2nd generation Prius goes from 2004-2009 and the interior looks like this:

If the car you're looking at is a 2nd gen Prius, then it is not a 2013 and someone is trying to lie to you.

Another thing to consider with fleet cars is many people will drive a fleet car worse than they would a personal car, so having a mechanic check out the car is more important.

 

It would be very helpful to do some detective work and determine what type of fleet this vehicle was in. If this was part of a taxi fleet, I'd probably steer clear. Fleet vehicles can be better maintained -- Avis/Hertz aren't going to rent cars with visual defects -- but they also could be worse maintained -- Avis/Hertz aren't going to bother fixing a hidden problem or perhaps even doing suggested maintenance knowing that the vehicle will be sold and thus spending money on longevity doesn't help their bottom line. Find and download the sales brochures for the model years you are looking at so you can determine what was included in the trim packages. Does the fleet vehicle qualify for the retail warranty?

 

From the Carfax report, it looks like the previous owner did not do maintenance at a dealer where they report to Carfax. That can mean they maintained the car themselves, it can mean they took it to an independent mechanic, or it can mean maintenance was irregular or sporadically done.

 

Please let us know what you wind up doing. I'm really surprised there's no EV button. Has anybody here seen a Pkg. 1 car?

 

Battery is affected by miles too, This January I dropped a new battery at 186K miles in a 2013 Prius, $3,105 with tax. Here is the proof:

 

If you go to the Toyota website and punch in that vin it will pull all services done at any toyota dealer.

 

That makes me uneasy, mine has 150k on it now.
