Talking about Prius Prime depreciation... there are already 2nd hand deals on Prius Prime... but they are still priced too high, eg this one:
2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced For Sale In East Hartford | Cars.com
$27k+TTL ... with the $3.5k incentive, you can pick up a NEW Advanced for around $30-31k +TTL (according to the pricing thread), take-away $4,500 fed-discount, you get $26k+TTL and this is for a USED with 7k miles on it: shuld really be priced more like $25k at this point!

I had 2015 Gen3 Prius Two. Overall, I really like PRIME. Initially I wanted to get PRIME purely because of it's ability to plug-in and being able to run on EV only. I thought for my short daily commute, this would be a perfect solution to be semi petro independent. However, after seeing a real car and driving it, I really liked its much sportier style and very responsive drive. IMO, the handling and acceleration is so much better than Gen3. I really wasn't expecting that, and it brought back fun in driving a car. My last two cars were hybrid, Civic hybrid for 5 years, and then Gen3 Prius 3 years. I have forgotten what is like to drive a sporty car. That said, there are major deficiency in PRIME that I had on Gen3. Cargo space is one of them. Another issue, which I have not had problem yet but foresee is the cost or ease of repair on it, if required. I hope I don't have to fix anything on this car, but being the first year model of all new PRIME line which is 100% manufactured in JAPAN, there has been a post here on windshield repair on PRIME taking months. For now, Gen3 Prius has no such problem.

Used car market is such a racket. My feeling is that most of dealers nowadays make more profit from used cars than sales of new cars. They can put whatever the price they feel like. Most time, buyer don't know what kind of car they are getting, but dealer price it so high. I traded in 2015 Prius Two for my new PRIME. The trade-in the dealer gave me was $1K below KBB trade-in value, but I didn't want deal with private sale of the car, so I took it. The $11K 2015 Prius Two they bought from me is on their used car lot now for $17.5K. I don't think they did anything onto the car other than good car wash and cleaning. No wonder they gave me such a huge discount on my purchase.

I love the look of it also and even though I only took it for a test drive there was a definite difference. It had a tighter feel to it in my opinion. Just have to decide what to do. I drive about 60 miles a day so I love saving on gas and money which is the reason that even though I have looked at other hybrids, I come back to the Prius. Hopefully there will nothing that needs to be fixed for a long time.

The secret to getting good fuel economy out of a small block turbo is to stay out of boost. I doubt most drivers can do that. That said, the Civic with the same engine is well received at Cleanmpg.

That isn't much higher than what the Accord hybrid is now rated.

I was thinking the combined rating was 47mpg, but it is currently 48mpg with the recent adjustments.

Honda is claiming the next Accord hybrid will best the new Camry. Assuming the CR-V hybrid is getting the same, improved drive train, at least matching the current Accord hybrid shouldn't be hard.

Started new thread on the new Accord.

Reading some more articles, it seems like Honda CR-V Hybrid will not be available for the 2018 model, but instead for the 2019... this is good for the Prius - one less competitor for the 2018 year ;-)

I would think potential buyers for CR-V is quite different segment than Prius buyers. I am sure Toyota will continue to improve RAV4 hybrid efficiency, and continue to be the head to head competition against CR-V. Honda needs it's own hybrid model to compete against Prius. I once thought of purchasing Insight, but didn't. I wonder if they have any plan to bring it back?

Yeah but if the new Camry is any indication, the next gen RAV4 Hybrid may be behind the CR-V Hybrid in mpg. Toyota chose to go with a lower mpg rating for SE/XLE, leaving the LE to be the spokesperson for the Camry Hybrid (52mpg!).

I believe a 3rd generation Insight is in the works but we don't know in what form (probably a hatchback but there's been no indication or spyshots so it's purely speculation).

Well I am off to my Toyota dealer this weekend to try and make a deal on a Prime Plus. Love the car and want to take advantage of the rebates while I can.

Not out of the question but I will see what they give me a better deal on. They have a Premium there in red but I want gray and no Plus so either way they have to get the car for me.

I disagree. The plus is missing a larger screen and Toyota purposefully didn’t give it 3 door sks. Otherwise they are identical cars that you are paying an almost 2k premium for.

I have seen some saying they got the Premium for less than Plus so that would be the only case that I would get one. I know I will be perfectly happy with the Plus

The best price LOL. I have always been looking at the Plus so like I said unless some crazy deal on a Premium then I am fine.

That was not true in California but I believe you might be able get a good deal on the east coast if you aren’t picky about color.

Can someone please explain to me how the $3500 cash rebate works. I just walked out of my Toyota dealer because the salesman pissed me off

What do you want to know? Factory incentives are from TOYOTA, and the amount is subtracted from your sales price at the dealer. That's about all I know.

That's what I thought but the dealer told me that I don't get that off the price of the car they get it and go to a bank and pay Toyota cash for the car
