For the fuse sockets under the dash, which side is hot?

    I'm talking about the little fuse box that is near the brake. Those dang micro fuse sockets are so tiny that's its difficult to get a volt meter probe in there. I'll have to configure a probe if no one has the answer, but maybe some one knows........

    As you look towards the front of the vehicle, is the left side of the fuse socket hot or the right side?

    I'm not sure it's necessarily simple or consistent ... the two columns of fuses might be symmetrical, or it could even be more irregular than that. That isn't just a fusebox; it's the bottom of the "instrument panel junction box", which has non-trivial circuit routing built into it. It's shown in schematic form in the wiring diagram manual, but even that doesn't necessarily tell you the physical layout. I would just plan on individually checking whichever fuse slot you are planning to use.

    But if your purpose is to hook something up with a fuse tap, you'll either get it right on the first try or the second, right?

    For tight spots like that, I use leads with alligator clips and clip a wire in each one and stick the other end of the wire into the connector or whatever it is that I'm measuring.

    Good points.

    I'm not doing a fuse tap, but rather putting a switch interrupting the #15 tail fuse. My DEI remote start system (don't know who branded it, it was in the car when I got it) flashes the daytime running lights, the tail lights and the dash after a remote start. These lights are all on the #15 Tail Fuse (10A) so I ran a toggle to that fuse thus permitting me to prevent this behavior when desired (long story). For the time being, I drilled out one of the blanks on the dash and mounted a SPST switch. I have an OEM rocker switch on order from Toyota in Japan.

    Jerry had a good suggestion and I also figured out that I could just measure at the switch itself (D'Oh!). For what its worth, on the #15 fuse, hot on the left side as you face the front.

    I can't imagine that anyone would search and come upon this thread in the future, but just in case, let me correct that I meant #30 fuse, NOT #15. It's in the corner of the fuse box, closest to the firewall on the driver's side.
