You hold the button down (that's why it says "hold") and the doors lock. Shortly thereafter, the heat pump starts operating at the temperature setting you had it set to when you shut off the car.

Well I think I figured it out. I haven't actually tried it but I am pretty confident. The "Remote Climate" is ONLY on the Advanced model and is different than the "Remote A/C" on the fob. "Remote Climate" allows you to use the Entune App to actually configure the temp and turn on or off the front and rear defrosters regardless of their last settings. The "Remote A/C" on the fobs ONLY allows you to turn on A/C (heat or cool) to whatever the last setting was used in the car. So if you had it set to 75 degrees and the front defroster was previously ON than that is what will come on when you hit the "Remote A/C" button on the fob. This actually accomplishes exactly what my Remote Engine Start (my original post) accomplished on my 2011 Prius III. That's all I really wanted or needed it for. I just want the car to either warm up or cool off during temperature extremes in the Northeast. Would it have been nice to have the app and be able to adjust it all specifically regardless of the last setting of the car? Absolutely, but I didn't "spend a few more bucks" to get that. My confusion is that the salesperson at the dealer didn't know how it worked and told me it was just a button on the remote and would only be active IF I purchased the Advanced model. Shame on him and shame on me. I've only had the car for less than 2 weeks and there's a lot to learn. I will verify all of this tomorrow but I do appreciate all the responses even though they got slightly OFF topic and seemed a little aggressive and attack-y. I love the car and don't miss too many of the Advanced model specific options especially for the $3000 - $3500 more it would have cost. Thanks again.

I have used the button on the key fob to start the a/c, so that feature works on all models since I have a Plus. It does indeed use the settings for climate when you turned the car off ... Have not had the need to try it out for heating the car here in SoCal :cool:

Yeah...I told you that in post 10:

Which is why I told you about it in the first post.

That Advanced doesn't have that. Just previous setting (same as the fob), max cool or max heat.

True, but it was really you doing the attacking:

I was arguing with you because I thought I was right and I thought that particular feature is exactly what you needed to solve your problem.

Remote A/C is different than Remote Climate. I was confused and am not any longer. Not on that issue anyway.

Does the Remote a/c or Remote Climate work if there is no battery charge miles left?

The manual is vague, see below ... my guess is it refers to the overall charge but someone might want to test it

"The system may also shut off if the charge level of the hybrid battery (traction battery) drops to low. "
"The system may not start in the following situations:
The charge level of the hybrid battery (traction battery) is low"

The remote climate is definitely run by the traction battery, it will not work if there isn't enough power left in the battery pack. The system will not start the engine under any circumstances. Even so, it is not considered safe to turn on the remote climate while people are inside the vehicle. So while it would be entirely possible to turn it on repeatedly overnight if you decided to sleep in your car while plugged in at a charging location, Toyota wouldn't recommend such an action. You can not crack the windows and still have remote climate work from my understanding, all windows and doors must be closed and locked (but I could be wrong on that last part, haven't really read much into it as I don't plan to camp in my car :D)

I have a 2018 Prius Prime Plus and my AC button on my factory fob works. But I did notice that it seems to ignore me for about 5 to 10 after getting done with a trip. Try waiting 10 mins before attempting to factory remote start the prime in HVAC mode. Now if you want to see something way cool I did with my prime's 3rd party remote start check this out: https://youtu.be/C0Y_tmcuLzI

It's not "5-10" it's 3.5, and it's one of the dumbest design decisions ever.

In hindsight, I feel like us Prius Premium owners got j’ipped on our Premiums… almost makes me not want to get another Prius or Toyota… I also lost remote features when they pulled the Entune app… ridiculous that they don’t allow us to have the option to upgrade to obtain the same additional features that are available in the Advanced models for remote access to climate control and such .. how hard can it be? I bet it’s just a setting on an application that one could tweak if they wanted to… oh well, live and learn I guess… and for those that said we should have got the Advanced, ya apparently so in hindsight and if I knew what I wasn’t getting I would have; so shame on me for trusting the sales person. Again, lived and now learned to do better research and not listen to the sales person as they obviously didn’t know what they were selling me and I didn’t know what the various packages were actually lacking in offering me…

Thanks! I’m hoping it’s similar for the 2017 model Prius Prime Premiums for the operation for remote climate aka AC from the fob … [if I knew now what I didn’t know when I bought mine, I’d have opted for the few grand more as I feel like they screwed us out of features included only in the Advanced … ]
