Boot / Trunk space with a spare wheel

    I am looking to get a Prius 4 with 15" wheels. In the U.K. We get the choice of a spare wheel or inflation kit from the factory. I would prefer a spare wheel but the height of the boot is also important. I know the boot floor is higher if you have the spare wheel but don't know how much higher.
    Does anyone know what the difference is? An inch? 2 inch or more etc?

    is it raised, or is the non spare lower? i think 2", but i also think some have added a spare to the non spare models without raising the floor. you can find threads here.

    Thanks. I have seen the threads about adapting the floor but will just order from factory. I can't modify it as it will be a company car.

    The boot shrinks by about 10% volume but struggling to get the inches/cm difference. Dealers typically don't know.

    Probably best to throw a tape measure at one in a dealer's yard. It's hard for someone else to ascertain which measurement is most important to you, as the height varies along the length and width of the car:

    I would but all of the ones near me have the inflation kit so nothing to compare too.

    I have a business edition with spare. It has flat floor and I don't think you'll notice any great loss of luggage storage unless you pack inflated balloons. Nobody fills from floor too roof, do they????

    Could you measure the floor to cover whenever convenient please?
    I have a box that is 21 inches high. I know it fits in a car with the inflation kit as it misses the glass. Just need to see how much higher I lose.

    Better get out your tape measure and get to a dealer, then.. I wouldn't want to say yes or no if it was close to call. Better still, take the box with you and try it for size of it is so critical. Sorry.

    My conversion to spare tyre kit raised the floor just under 2", so if your box is 2" lower than the glass in the non-spare one, you should be ok (mine's a Prius Excel).

    Official Toyota, space saver spare & replacement polystyrene inserts.
    Some US forum members have retained the original gunge kit polystyrene inserts and cut a hole in them for the spare wheel, this results in less change in height of the boot floor, by how much I'm not sure.

    The boot is lower and therefore more cargo space with the inflation kit instead of a spare. I'm sure you can look at the exact difference by going to a Toyota website and comparing model specifications.

    I for one prefer the inflation kit - more space, less weight, better gas mileage.

    My rear floor boot space is lowered by at least 3.5". I have a model 4. If you get the factory spare tire, you'll lose 3 cubic feet of storage capacity. And before you get after me for not using metric... remember we got this lousy measurement system from the Brits! :)

    Wow, 3 cubic feet, that's about 0.888889 cubic cubits (an ancient measure of length, approximately equal to the length of a forearm. It was typically about 18 inches or 44 cm, though there was a long cubit of about 21 inches or 52 cm).
