So why is it the case that some dealers give more discount than other dealers, even in the same region with the same Toyota incentives or other incentives close in amount? Are some dealers obtaining the vehicles at lower cost than others? Or is it the case that the profit margin is much wider than I am imagining, and some dealers are cutting the margin much narrower than others?

The ones who discount want to sell more cars. Frankly I was shocked to be offered almost $2k under MSRP when we emailed the dealer for a price. I thought they'd offer me a few hundred under MSRP and I'd have to fight for it.

dealerships are independent businesses. while some may get a slightly better deal than others from toyota, the big thing is moving cars.
yes, we have no idea what the real margins are, due to hidden kickbacks from toyota.
depending on their inventory level, how longhairs are sitting on the lot, and other financial reasons, some are more willing to discount than others.
the northeast has a ton of primes, and fewer buyers. but toyota gets carb credits in california for every prime sold in other carb states, so that's why they ship so many here.

BTW, congrats! I am just no catching up on this thread and saw the pics of you and your husband at Langway. Fun! And yes, Damian is a great guy to work with and very knowledgeable. My wife and I live about 15 minutes from Langway and I jokingly told her “Gosh, we need to have lunch and/or a beer with all of these PriusChat members that are coming here.” LOL.

Congrats to you two on the new addition to your fleet!

I know it was just mentioned a few posts up, but I want to reiterate the point that each dealership is its own unique business. It is up to them to determine how they want to move cars and at what profit margin. Also, the supply and demand in each region is unique and has a big effect on pricing. And there are a long list of other factors, some of which include volume discounts, kickbacks, bonuses for financing, and so much more than we could ever list here unless we wrote a small book.

And in answer to your question, yes, as of the writing of this post, you can get a Prime Advanced in New England in the $27,600-$27,900 price range. Myself and many others have received this price and purchased it within the last 2 weeks. Just thumb through the last 3-5 pages in this thread and you’ll see exactly what we paid. This thread is incredibly powerful and should be a mandatory study for anyone buying a new Prius Prime.

If the only option in the portions of the Midwest are several thousand dollars above MSRP, you’re only one plane flight away and a 2-3 day drive home from saving upwards of $10,000. Anytime I can make that kind of money for 4 days of my time, I’m all over it...

In 2014, True Car was really helpful. I bought my Camaro, which had an msrp of 25k for 20k. I did negotiate off of the True Car price though.

Since then, True Car has been a waste, I have purchased three cars since then and True Car has been useless. I was able to negotiate based on info from forums and found pricing through cars.com for the vette.

Absolutely! Another PriusChat member was coming here about a week ago and I made that exact recommendation to him! (We already had plans and couldn’t meet up.) Anthony’s is great...

Another factor I mentioned way back in post #330 is price matching. The dealer I worked left me with the impression that they were able to use the other quotes and presumably adjust their final costs through rebates or such. I don't know how the whole system works but I was happy it seemed to work in my favor.

Yes, $2K-$3K (Some of our Rhode Island friends seem to be doing even a bit better) discounts off MSRP in addition to the $3125 Toyota rebate still seem to be available in the New England.

TrueCar. Don't get me started. Total waste of time. Never had more phone call and email spam. Still getting some a year later.

I live in New England area and searching for Prime Advanced/Premium. So far I found one dealer in Boston who quoted Prius Prime Advanced
MSRP-34600 and after discount is 28500, + dealer fee 429, registration fee around 200 and taxes. You did not mention $429 anywhere. Also did the Langway gave you that price on the phone, or you had to be there to get that price?

Also looks like you were able to purchase the vehicle and drive away from there? But out of state dealers are telling me that they cannot give me the vehicle, they need to have the delivery arranged at later time?

    Thanks

I forgot to mention this, in 2007, we paid 30k for our Prius (it was nearly impossible to get one in NY). We paid 28k for the Prime Advanced, and with the Federal rebate, that's 23.5k, making our top of the line 2017 Prius $6500 less than our 2007 Prius (plus the 8.625% NY tax difference of $173).

    How crazy is that?!?

I paid $27,773 plus $200 doc, plus $20 title, plus $24 temp tag. I gave them a bank check and they gave me a car. There was no $429 fee.

Save yourself the hassle, call Damian or ask for Mike the general manager and buy it there. Don't go through the sales people, I can't stress that enough. I would have paid more at another dealer if I had to go through sales there.

I currently own both though. I changed it and added the 2007 to my signature. I even updated my South Park avatar to a picture with my husband when we bought the Prime that Damian took at Langway. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. Caling them right now. Damian is not in and Mike is busy. I will leave a message and see if they call.
