like the speakers in a Kia Soul? no thanks but a speaker box and some 20 inch spinner wheels would be the BOMB ;)

    Todd-
I especially like the burned in smoke marks above the battery cable burned into the cover of the battery ecm. Good old fashion cabin fire.

    Tampa prius.com,
Still waiting to hear the back story on the battery you posted in the first post.

The pack was dated 3/28/16 so it seems like it would have been under warranty. Trying to understand what it is all opened up which would void the warranty.

Or wondering how this pack came to you?

Was it active in a customer's car?

It hadn't occurred to me that the original poster may not have purchased said battery from Dorman, but I see no indication that the unit arrived from Dorman in the condition shown. That would make sense.

So if it didn't arrive from Dorman in this condition, we don't know the real story.

To lay the blame on the Dorman battery may be premature without more info.

Did someone else mess with this pack before Tampaprius.com got it?

I have seen perfectly good batteries get ruined due to improper installation.

Have one on the bench right now that arrived with the plastic safety covers incorrectly installed. Wrong bolts in wrong places. Loose connections. Kind of a mess.

    Edit: corrected Tampa prius name.

This is the part that seems telling to me:

    Screen Shot 2017-09-03 at 4.58.03 PM.png

While these exposed solder connections don't look like they shorted against each other, the fact that the heat shrink tubing didn't get heat shrunk, makes all the other work suspect. It's as if someone was either in a big hurry, or they got sidetracked and didn't finish the job, as in double checking for loose connections, potential short circuits, etc.

And yes, @TampaPrius.com is a busy guy!

I agree jerry and good catch. Solder connections look tinned pretty good though but never shrunk the shrink.
    Under deadline for sure.

Pretty butchy there. My already low opinion of Dorman got lower.

    And Todds shop is

    Tampahybrids.com

Earlier in this thread someone posted tampaprius.com and not going to that site much I thought ok that's it.
But when I see the discussion above I realized no that's not it. Lol.....I am easily swayed. Lol.

I see a lot of Prius in Tampa with his decal.

Surprised there's not more battery fires.

The pip that burned to the ground and caught the house on fire still sticks in my mind. Great pictures.
    Horrible.

The heat shrink tubing was supposed to close up in the cabin fire. Must be faulty smoke.

    Lol.....that's great...

I looked again and one lead had unshrunk shrink and the other lead had no shrink at all like don't need it it won't touch anything as long as the other lead is shrunk. Really poor bench skills. Rookie.

ROFLOL!!! It kind of reminds me of how I used to tag electric motors being sent out for repair from the factory where I supervised in the electric shop. If it was bad bearings, I say if had bad bearings. But if it smoked, I'd say, "Blue smoke escaped. Please replace blue smoke." The repair shop always seemed to know what to do.

I saw the heatshrink issue. I was trying to understand why it is like that.

    Was that done at Dorman?
Or was it done by someone other than Dorman?
That is what isn't clear to me.

If the battery pack had previously been opened, then all bets are off that it was Dorman.

I think we can all think of a time when we have gotten sidetracked and made a mistake. Many of my customers want to watch me while I do a job and talk with me while I'm doing it. Sometimes is ok when I'm taking things apart. But not ok when I'm putting things back together.too easy to get distracted.

Amen to that. In fact, even though I know Todd has good people working for him, I double checked all the connections I could reasonably get at on mine before I installed it. Just in case someone did get distracted. And I don't mind at all when someone else double checks my work.

And I have also wondered if maybe that battery might have been tampered with.
