Prius A/C operating details

    I'm of the opinion that the A/C (or as I like to call it - Life Support) system aboard the Prius is actually an integral part of its operational propulsion system. It not only caters for the passengers comfort, but also provides vital extra cooling protection for the HV Traction Battery - which does run hot under normal operation, and much hotter in hotter climates / weather.

    If I lived in a perpetually hot climate (which thankfully, London isn't), I'd use the A/C every time I drove the Prius.
    I'd also endeavour to keep it parked out of the direct rays of the sun where possible. I guess I'd even go as far as to install high quality anti-solar radiation tinted film on the windows in the rear area of the vehicle, to keep interior temperatures down. I'd also always ensure that the rear sliding cover for the boot, is always in place to ensure the direct rays of the sun are kept well away from where the HV Traction Battery is located.

    I have a 2005 Prius and it does same thing! I changed blower resister and it still does it, its ice cold , then it slowly fan speed drops

    If your car isn't parked in the sun all the time I would tend to believe like the others there is something wrong with your system. We run our Prius long distances all the time in hot conditions, often hot and humid conditions. We're talking 100* to 120*. Even when it's been humid enough to start raining at 106* there's never been a problem. We have never experienced any kind of "hiccup" in the a/c system.

    I live in Tampa Fl , is there an a/c relay or fan motor relay on prius

    Um, yes, there are some relays involved. Are you having an A/C issue on your Prius, and is there some reason you are focused on relays?

    I drove semi's for 35 years. A common problem was the evaporator icing up . The compressor would continue to run and the a/c temp would feel warm.If I would shut it off and let the ice to melt it would cool again. I learned to keep the A/C temp on low in those problem trucks! I'm sure there is a temp. sensor in the evaporator that is defective.
    A/C problems were a low priority with large slip seat operations!

    A/C is 40 out of vents but when I drive 45 minutes motor blow on high seems to drop down to super low speed and not blowing but still reads 40 at vent . In 90 high humidity 100 percent

    I use a sun shield , windows are tinted dark, shield cover closed, reading 40 out of vent , after driving 45 minutes fan motor on a/c on high feels like super low , still reading 40 degrees out of vent

    Is the indicated fan speed (green highlight, middle row) moving around at all as this happens? Or is it staying at HI? Have you manually pressed "HI", and does it stay there?

    Icing of the evaporator could cause a gradual reduction of airflow without the fan setting actually changing. That would be easiest for a skilled A/C shoppe to check out.
