Getting the 'Check Hybrid System' msg. Once you engage the hybrid battery orange connector, you MUST slide the lever to the right to lock it into place.

I'm new to this forum, but wanted to share something I found after digging deep into other threads. Something that is so obvious I'm kicking myself for not realizing it sooner.
I was cleaning EGR system on my 2011 Prius due to rumbling gas motor start issues, so had numerous components off for cleaning. Had disconnected the hybrid battery and the 12V battery, but upon reconnecting, when attempting start, was getting the 'Check Hybrid System' on Dashboard display. Tried numerous tricks/tips posted here, but simply, the problem was that once you engage the hybrid battery orange connector, you MUST slide the lever to the right to lock it into place, I had removed and reconnected it numerous times, but had not slid the lever to the right to lock it. Once I did that, all was fine.... So, I'm posting this here for those who have had weird issues after disconnecting and could not figure out why since they did nothing complicated to affect the hybrid system. Hope this helps others that did not realize to slide the lever to lock.

    Welcome to Prius Chat (y).

Any reason you took the orange safety plug off? If just doing the egr circuit, there is no interaction with the HV system:cool:.

    Helpful tip though(y).

I AM REALLY GLAD YOU POSTED THIS. I HAVE A 2010 PRIUS AND JUST REPLACED THE EGR COOLER AND VALVE. DID THE SAME THING YOU DID - REMOVED THE ORANGE HYBRID CONNECTOR (BECAUSE I LIKE TO ISOLATE EVERYTHING) AND FORGOT TO SLIDE IT TO THE RIGHT TO LOCK IT. GOT THE SAME MESSAGE. SCRATCHING MY HEAD BECAUSE I CHECKED AND RECHECKED ALL THE CONNECTORS. THANKS AGAIN FOR POSTING. THAT MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!

Yeah not really necessary, to disconnect either battery. Sometimes it is, but not for EGR work, and/or intake manifold cleaning.
