I lived with them for 9 years. Adopted at 9. I don't know about all states, but from what I experienced here in Oregon it was all about the money foster and my adoptive parents got. I had one great foster parents that positively affected my life and that was it out of the 6 or 7 I went through. For the most part I was a maid while the other biological kids got to watch tv and do whatever. I can't write cursive because of all the schools I went too!

Basically when I was 12 my great grandfather passed away and left my biological sister and I $96k for our futures to buy a car, go to college, or whatever. Well they spent that on their luxury car, her trip to Florida, their vowel renewals, and whatever else and when I asked about funding for college and confronted them about it they gave me a 24 hour notice to leave and said they were done with me. I left in 30 minutes and haven't talked to them in over three years. There's quite a bit more but that's the major bit.

As for Huntsville I tried a lot harder to look for a hybrid mechanic than I did last time and couldn't find anyone who states they have trained mechanics on their website. You could give shops a call in case it's just not listed though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Max, you are such a nice young man; it's obvious from your helpful posts. You have triumphed over extreme adversity, which is a phenomenal accomplishment and one you should take great pride in. No one should have to endure this hardship and it's unfortunate people like your adoptive parents would take advantage of a child. If I were you, I would be tempted to write a book and name names. Once I figure out how to send a private message here I'm going to send you a note.

In the meantime, my husband thinks he might be able to take the car to Birmingham to visit the mechanic you found for us, since this is beginning to be our business's slow time. And it will be thanks to you because you looked a little outside the box, something I didn't think to do. If he does go, I'll report back on this thread what happens.

Thanks! It's life honestly. I've thought many times about taking them to court, but really I don't need the money and I'd rather focus on school then trials.

Keep us updated on the car! Hoping it's fixed and helps create many memories!

Thanks, Max and Ed. We just have to figure out when we can take it in. Right now, in the lull between more codes, it's running fine, so we are at least able to use it. I will post what we find out and how we fix it. I hope this thread, once complete, will help others!

Well... all the hotels were closed too. But that wouldn't matter as you may be traveling back and forth in the middle of a Cat4 storm. Not good. But at least we have a whole building gen and had ac. Alot of people brought in there dogs in crates. They were housed in the back of one of our studios. I went back there to see how they were doing and one of the ladies brought in her 2 shelties. 2 tiny little brown and white shelties that looked identical brother and sister. She had a little white plastic picket fence set up around them and they were laying on these big pillows with there heads touching. Staring at me and pretty freaked out. Cutest thing I have ever seen. Heart breaking. Kick myself for not taking a picture.

Its quite a different perspective though when your sleeping under your desk.

    Suzy,

No one can read trouble codes that are not present! For now all you can do is let Dad drive the car until the code returns. I've been waiting about four years for a P0AA6 code to return on my daughters car. Weird things can happen. In the mean time you really should get the Mini VCI cable. Most come with a bootleg copy of Toyota Techstream software. It runs best on a old Windows XP laptop. When the problem reappears you'll be ready to read the sub codes.

A few pages back the dealer read a P0AA6 code with a 526 sub code. Unfortunately the 526 sub code does not help pinpoint the source of the leak. At the previous owners expense the HV battery was replaced because someone was guessing it was the source of the leak. Since you now have the new HV battery it is not likely the source of the leak. The P0AA6 code can also have 611,612,613, and 614 sub codes. These sub codes will identify the source of the leak. Below is a link that explains the sub codes.

    http://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/repair%20manual/04pruisr/05/21bpm/3009526.pdf

Once a Gen 2 Prius detects a HV leak it will keep running until shut off but it will not restart. Disconnecting the 12 volt battery will clear the codes and allow the car to be restarted. Keep a 10 mm wrench in the car for disconnecting the 12 volt battery to ensure that you don't end up stranded.

Hi Brad. Thanks for your post with the link to the sub codes! The document shows trouble code P009, though, not P0AA6. I take it these are related? We did get the mini VCI and we came up with only one code; it appeared when we tested the A/C system: B1421 (the solar sensor circuit, passenger side). All the other systems showed no codes. So that P0AA6 code did NOT show up and my daughter has begun driving the car again. When the problem recurs, will the mini VCI come up with the same code a dealer would see (the P0AA6 code)? We were expecting that code. If so, then if it happens again, I am assuming I will get a sub code. While writing this, I just FINALLY reached the dealer and I got the subcode. It's 526 and that was the only one. That's one of the codes on the document.

Right - we saw that. My husband looked at the sub code document and said he didn't see anything that indicated the trans axle needs replacement. Anyway, Brad saying that he has been waiting four years for his daughter's car's same code to return is very encouraging!

This code has shown up in the past before we owned the car. It's in the records from Oct 2016, and I think maybe the owner sold it because he was told it needed a transmission (service was declined). I wonder if our Toyota dealer saw that the previous dealer diagnosed a transmission replacement, and then just used that diagnosis instead of trying to figure out themselves what was really wrong. The code had also shown up in May 2016, also, at which time the previous dealer "fixed" the problem by putting in a new 12V battery, and when the problem returned after a couple days, they "fixed" it again with a new hybrid battery.

For 2004 and older cars the leak code was P3009. 2005 and on the code changed to P0AA4. P0AA6 was me being old and tired.

The sub codes are found by clicking on the snowflake icons to get to the freeze frame data. The snowflakes are little blue asterisk next to the codes.

I thought P0AA6 was the correct code for HV battery isolation leak. P0AA4 is "Hybrid Battery Negative Contractor Circuit Stuck Closed", according to my source. My source isn't 100% reliable, though.

Hello everyone, this thread is pretty amazing... I have a very similar problem on my 08 as we speak... happened Tuesday... I'm thinking my transaxle is bust just as Suzy's... I bought a Mini-Vci and got a virtualbox set up on my Mac with Techstream and pulled similar codes. P0AA6, 526, 613 and as JC91006 said its probably that. (Nice work JC btw... you are all over these forums)

I'm just curious if there are any connections you can check while diving into the transaxle world that might throw these codes... ie harnesses, connecters, fuses etc.

My freeze frame is hear for reference....

Suzy... I feel your pain I just got a solid job at a university 2 months ago and my first purchase was that 08 Prius with 94,000 miles. We both got torched. I look forward to you getting your problem resolved!

I read that in California this is covered by a 150,000 mile warranty. Not sure if this applies in any other state and how to go about that.

    (TOYOTA TECHNICAL BULLETIN)

You need to have both 526 and 613, maybe see if you're still under the warranty? Under 100k I'd say it's worth a shot

I broke that mileage threshold unfortunately... already got her up to 103,000 with my hour commute... Thanks though
