Deleted iPhone Facebook App

    So this afternoon, I was going to use my iPhone to update my Facebook timeline only to be tossed into a Facebook 'photo' app that 'wanted' access to my photos. Which part of 'H*LL NO!!!' does Facebook need!

    I could not defeat the attempt to 'self install' so I killed the iPhone Facebook App. If they try that crap again, forcing an App down my throat, I would rather walk away.

    Never had Facebook, never regretted that decision.

    However what's the big deal with letting them use your photos? You're already plugged into the hive. Unless you have sensitive information on your phone and in that case you wouldn't be allowed to have facebook installed on it in the first place.

    You can still use the FB app without having access to the photos. The photos access is just so that you can upload photos to your timeline via the app, that's all.

    I use iPhone photos to capture engineering data, document damage or projects that I am working on. I am not interested in wasting time. Of course if you want to dump yours ... I am not interested in wasting time.
    I prefer to edit my photos before sharing:
    • cropping what does not provide content
    • photo enhancing what otherwise is clear to me but obscure to others
    We have easy options to edit our text. But photo editing takes more time and better tools. I would rather post photos that provide quality information than something that is the photo equivalent of a 'tweet.'

    What pissed me off is Facebook would not take "NO!" for an answer. I could either "Cancel" and get prompted again or surrender and give them access to my iPhone photos. Still you've given me an idea!

    I'll delete all of the photos and then take one of a message that says something terribly rude about Facebook (and I have the Marine vocabulary and visual skills.) Did I mention getting requests to change my home page photos too?

    Now if they'll send me a nice check, say $750, I'll be happy to sign a contract and get regular payment for generating content for Facebook. After all, I'm not a hugely wealthy, well compensated moderator. <GRINS>

    Having Facebook installed on a device like a phone means there should be no sensitive data. If there is either it's already contaminated or the data is not actually sensitive.

    Most sensitive engineering projects cannot be photographed in the first place. The only photos of things on my personal phone, are things that have already cleared into the public. May require an NDA, but no longer confidential for designers only.

    Most photos I use for documentation go through Adobe Photoshop and pixelated what doesn't need to be seen. Pretty easy step to prepare an image for circulation.

    Since I don't have or use Facebook I have no idea what photo thing your talking about. However it would be pretty silly to have an automatic chatbot style photo poster for a social feed that just posts every photo you take. And if that's what it is, it should have an off button.

    facebook has learned that they can control a great deal of their users behavior. they don't take kindly to 'black sheep'.

    You can still use FB through your browser without the App.
    I took the App out when it kept insisting on installing FB Messenger.
