My wife's '17 had the same issue. Thanks to this thread, we got the dealer to really dig in and solve the problem. They had pulled apart the brakes and lubricated all moving parts, resurfaced the rotors and pads, and retorqued all suspension bolts. I had to email our service manager the receipt from page 2 of the thread to show him that someone else had already solved it. I have attached a copy of our service receipt - same problem, same solution. Thanks again!

Nice! I'm really happy that you were able to get it fixed and that I was able to help! :D

Well I finally took a prius tech for a ride at another dealership and he said the noise is normal (he has a prius and had multiple prius's since gen1, he said its part of the noises prius cars make. The service manager at the first dealership said the same thing. I am wondering whether I should hit up a third dealership or live with it the way it is. I'm at 20K miles now. I really hate them tearing apart a brand new car for a noise that will come back after a while.

I would say: it depends just how much the noise bugs you. If you can live with it, amen! But if it's gonna annoy the heck out of you, well - you have to make waves. Hope you reach a happy solution.

do not know! Mine make several strange noises, but nothing that alarms me unduly. You see I really am fat, dumb and happy. Road noise across certain surfaces can be very intrusive and probably the most annoying of all, but like others have said before, maybe because the Prius is so darned quiet you just notice it more.

I have the noise too. I have my fourth gen Prius since April 2016 for 20.000 miles now. I made a video of the sound:

I'm in contact with my dealer. But what I don't want is my relatively new car to be teared apart. :(

Couldn't hear it. Not saying it's not there, just the video's not picking it up that well?

Yeah, it's quite difficult to hear it. Try it with minute 5:00.

My dealer contacted me, they need the car for a whole day. Toyota (Germany) needs more information, my dealer has to drive the car with a diagnostic tool installed on the OBD port, the collected data will then be examined. This will happen in two weeks.

    Mine? No, why?

That va, va, varoom acceleration. Not good for mileage

I can't imagine what they think they're going to get over the OBDII that would be useful if there are no trouble lights. Sounds like the dust shield is hitting the brake caliper or something. I'd put the front on jack stands and spin the tires with the car in Neutral to see if you hear it. If so, take that side's tire off and see what's going on back there. However, since it is covered under warranty, might was well let the dealer do the investigating.

I used to be a sonar operator, subtle sounds are in my dna, but can't hear anything. Cranked my speakers right up too. OTOH, my hearing's going a bit. Anyone else hear it?

I know. I had to accelerate like this because I needed to brake to record the sound. My first car was a Honda Civic Automatic with hatchback back in the early 90s, then I had a Coupé Fiat, a Ford Focus, a Prius 2nd generation, a Lexus CT 200h and now a Prius 4th gen. No BMW. ;)

The car was on the hydraulic ramp at my dealer. It was investigated, the sound doesn't come from the breaks or axes nor the tires. It must be a motor generator or something like that creating these noises Mendel Leisk doesn't hear. ;)

Great video and captured exactly what my issue is Jorin. I am with you and hate for them to take apart the car for no issue or if everyones car makes the same noise. I can hear it right in the video at the beginning as soon as slowing down under 30 or so. Tick or click noise is the best I can describe.

It's far better than meine Deutsch, Jorin although my English often gets corrected till it's almost meaningless by the auto-corection on my tablet.
