I was driving my prius recently in the mountains of new england and I got an error which I had never seen before, "check hybrid system". So, I take my car to the local toyota dealer to have it looked at and do my 6 month inspection.
The dealer tells me that the transmission of my car is busted and it'll cost me around $6000 to get that replaced. Moreover, my car is no longer under warranty.
I dont really understand how that could be the case. I cant find any instances of a prius' transmission being busted in the forums. The car is only at 93k miles. I have owned it for less than a year.

Has anyone else had these issues? I love my prius and I am super proud of it. Getting this issue properly fixed would be fantastic.

Ask the dealer for the specific trouble codes they read.

yes, there have been some tranny's replaced, but it is fairly rare, and tube sure, diagnosis isn't that simple.
one thing to do is clean your cooling fan and intake grille.

Is there any specific code I should look out for?

If I do this correctly and it does the intended job will the "Check Hybrid System" warning also go away? Or do i need a device to clear the error?

Just get all the codes that were recorded and report back.

i'm not saying it will, but i am saying that some people have gotten that message, and a clogged cooling system is the problem. it may or may not be in your case, it's worth checking.

Look at JC1006 post. If you get a mini vci you actually have a snowball's chance in hell of actually fixing your car. Otherwise there is no chance without the fault codes. It's all just guessing.....

I placed an order on amazon. A mini vci will arrive tomorrow. I'll also meet my dealer tomorrow when I pick up the car, I'll ask him for the error codes too.
