Yeah just a leetle too much. The distance between the pips represents 1.5 liters, according to 2nd gen Owners Manual. Just doing a ratio equation, laying a ruler on that pic, I think you'd need to drain about 350 cc to get it back to top pip.

It was more or less level this time?

    Thanks again guys.

One thing to note, I did just check this right after a run to the gym...so my car was running prior to me checking (Derp) so this may not be an accurate check there.. I may give it one more shot after I complete this meeting to get a better reading, now that I see what i am looking for.

Just checked it once more and its in the same location.

Rats! Off to draining again we go. Just gonna be a tad frustrating but i'd rather drain and be safe then run into car probelms later.

Do a little over or exactly at 3.5 quarts next time and you should be fine.

drain too much, rather than too little, into a clean container. then you can slowly add and measure. you don't want to have to drain twice.

if i was changing my own oil, i would start with 3 quarts, then slowly add and measure, until i got comfortable.

Congrats on the first oil change. I think it's something everyone who's able bodied should do if they have a flat spot to do so.

If you can find a large syringe and a small tube, as previously mentioned, it's easy. Don't try to suck it out with your mouth unless you want to risk spending the rest of the day and most of tomorrow trying to spit out the taste. Did that once on a motorcycle. No fun spitting all day while wearing a full coverage helmet. ;)

This is what I do every time. You don't have to get it perfect; just not over-full.

And, as several mentioned, start it up to make sure the filter is full and then let it settle before you call it "done." Once you've done it a couple times, it's routine.

Excellent. What I may do for this go around is see if I can head to a local shop and they can just remove a bit of excess for me (hopefully for free). If not I may just have to go to harbor freight to buy a syringe that works (any experience on what works here guys?). The reason I say this is because I did the oil change on the side of a street and handling the ability to remove just a little while its busy today may seem like a tad of work. Would rather wait until it becomes less busy or have someone else do it.

The dealer consistently overfilled the oil. I installed a Fumoto easy drain oil pan drain plug to easily drain off the excess oil (search for Fumoto or EZ Drain valve F103).

When I got tired of having to do that, I started supplying 4 qts of oil and telling them I will top off the level myself, which I don't do, because the oil level comes out in the middle of the oil dipstick indicator points.

I may just have to buy this for the future....Reason I say this is because if you don't have a driveway this makes life a ton more easier!

Probably the next oil change I do will have to be at a jiffy lube /quick shop eitherway. I don't have the tools to do a tire rotation and those guys do it for free , so why not take advantage of a free rotation and go from there...can always do the oil every third go around, but seems that the fumoto just makes life easier.

If you're careful, you can back out the drain bolt, but hold it in place, just cant it slightly, almost out, and trickle out a cup or two.

Yeah, the hassle is more or less finding a container to remove the excess oil. Used up my last milk jugs and containers that could handle the oil. Need to improvise...

Me too. But OCD might cause others to fret about it.
What your picture shows is well within the "margin for error".

Just drain the oil filter and you'll be good to go.

put on a fumoto valve if you are going to be doing your own.

Saves you time and trouble when your miscount your "glugs."

Been using them since I was 20 years old, never had a problem. But they have saved me several times, plus they really make the whole change simple. No new washers to worry about, no wrench to remove drain plug....

Holy moly, this thread is bat shit crazy! Any '06 worth it's salt will drink that 4 or 5 ounces of overfill within 500 miles. And it will not grenade itself in the process. Anywhere around 3.75 quarts is perfect Gen 2 fill using the the spec F2 filter. IMO 3.9 is somewhere around 3.75. Leave it alone and it might save you one top-off during the interval.

Just went to a local chain mechanic and they removed the excess without a headache and for free. Back at a normal level and no mess/ disposal of a half a quart of oil problems.

this is probably next on my want to buy list.

I'm probably gonna do the oil once every other opportunity. I'll do it once and then forward it over to a chain jiffy lube at around 7-8k miles (using synthetic) so they can also do a tire rotation for me, and then switch back to doing it myself.

be careful at jiffy lube. those monkeys have bricked a lot of engines over the years, and no one knows what oil they use.
if you insist, at least check the level before driving off. and even then, you won't know if they changed the filter, or if they even put one in, after removing the old.
