    Maybe narrow the point/idea/notion a bit? because there's ;
    ~ a Significant market/price customer affordability difference
    ~ a Significant infrastructure difference
    ~ a Significant size/cargo/passenger difference
    ~ a total of 200K sales for each manufacturer's customers before Fed's $7,500 credits drop down

    ie - not sure what that means "reduction in tesla zev credits" - maybe it's just that solo cup of coffee this morning. better go refill.
    don't each long range bev get the same amount of zev credits?

    Not sure about your first question. In one of the earliest 2013-2014 financial reports, Tesla guided towards lots of ZEV credits early in the year and almost none in the fourth. At the time they indicated this is expected.
    Part of me is guessing that ZEV credits expire at the end of the year. For planning purposes I would guess manufacturers want to get their expected annual sales covered ASAP and then only need to buy a small fraction at the end of the year.
    I was never curious enough though to look into it ;)

    The #1 car? i'd never heard of it. Google search shows it's Chinese. Go figure.
    I looked for a crash test & all I could find was a similarly sized ice Mini SUV. Yep, doesn't look like the Chinese have done much to figure out how things could be safer.


    But I guess it's a bargain, anyway.

    I know this, but there are plenty of PHEV owners going to Fueleconomy.gov and Fuelly to track their fuel use. With that just being the fuel used by the ICE, it gives useless data at best to false impressions at worse to anyone using the sites for research.

    It could be like the CAFE system where credits from a year can be applied to previous or even future years. In which case, Tesla is selling at the beginning of the year to manufacturers balancing their sheets from last year.

    The current shorter articles are stressing Tesla selling fewer credits this quarter.

    Their home car buyers priority for safety hasn't gone up much. It might have gone to sixth from ninth importance on a survey, but still under styling.

    Hill, the zev credits are those done by the state of california to mandate zevs, and were a significant part of tesla's revenue in 2012 and 2013, but haven't mattered much for them since. In 2014 CARB changed the rules to give tesla fewer credits (battery swap would not count for fast fueling, while non-existant hydrogen stations would count more for bonuses). I believe the extra special fuel cell bonus expires this year and banking is restricted, which may mean tesla makes more money in 2018 on zev credit sales, but ... again I'm not sure of the new rules.

    California may cap ZEV-credit sales; why it matters to Tesla, and for electric cars

    Bob, Yes, the bolt and mirai have increased zev credits for gm and toyota so they probably are not buying, and honda has banked a large number.

    Seeing how all Prius manufacturing for North America is in Japan, and I don't see that changing, I would go with Toyota. But as of 2015, the Yaris sold in the US was being imported from France, so perhaps the hybrid will be built there. It likely will be for the European market.

    Then Mazda doesn't built any actual Toyota models. The Yaris iA is a Mazda2 sedan with some minor cosmetic changes and a different badge. The hybrid they sell in Japan that is based on Toyota's system is a Mazda3/Axela.

    That's a head scratcher, inside EVs that is generally better than hybrid cars in counting vehicles that EV Sales Gain In October For US, As Chevy Bolt EV Is The Top Seller had it as the 4th best selling plug-in behind the bolt, prime and volt. Chrysler doesn't appear to be giving out monthly sales breakdown between the phev and regular pacifica. We may not know for sure until early next year when cumulative sales are reported.

    Currently, Yaris is manufactured in France (Toyota Valenciennes), almost half are hybrids.
