Based on limited research this is usually caused by a clogged up EGR and needs to be cleaned?

Light just came on...If I delete the code it comes back right away. Only 1 code: P0403: Exhaust Gas Recirculation I believe is the wording.

Vehicle has 221K Miles! Oil level is good.

Thoughts on how to get code to go away? And if this is urgent or can be driven with this code?

I am looking at the EGR valve. Which is over $200 new. Wonder if it just needs a good cleaning?

@Mendel Leisk has done some cleaning of engine parts. He is usually a good source of instructional material too.

Your whole circuit needs a good cleaning;).

Here a good thread to catch up on all the maintenance:

Nutz About Bolts Prius Maintenance Videos

I know you don’t do your own maintenance, but either show these to your mechanic or it will give you good ideas on what to go after:).

Once cleaning the egr circuit and intake manifold, you should be good for awhile;).

    Keep us posted (y).

Thanks. Hopefully safe to drive and not gonna cause a head gasket in 100 miles. May not be able to fix right away.

How long have you had it? How many miles have you put on it? Do you have baselines for the coolant level and oil level, or too early to tell as the answers to the previous questions?

Given the recent rash of head gaskets going south, I would proceed with caution, especially when something in the circuit is telling you it needs attention;).

    Hope that helps(y).
