    Huh? A dark sky area requires all lights to be off as a courtesy to other viewers. Turning to "ON" keeps the headlights on.

    Oh - I've never heard of one - I assumed it was when you had impending stormclouds and needed headlights ON.

    Hmm, the one I went too was in the middle of nowhere, away from any large city. I sure as heck didn't want to be that ******* with the HIDs as I drove out lol. (or even DRLs)

    On the Gen 3, the trick to keeping the DRLs off was to partially release the parking brake - release it such that you can roll but do not let the parking brake rise to its resting position. This way, I was able to drive out on moonlight and keep everyone's eyes dark-adjusted until I was sufficiently down the road to have my lights back on.

    Yeah basically with all the urbanization, it's nice to have some areas that are dark enough to be able to view meteor showers or the northern (southern) lights.

    Since it takes time for your eyes to get adjusted, you'd want to ensure your headlights don't come on (esp. if you have bright LEDs or HIDs in the blue spectrum). Parking lights should be ok since they're not that bright and at least identify your moving car.

    I live near to one on Bodmin Moor. It's now nice to be able to see more stars in the night sky. There is to be zillions when I was a kid, but very few with all the urban lighting around.

    That's right, but I think Zealand got in the act first! :ROFLMAO:

    When I'm at filling station my headlamps come on under the canopy and can upset some people, or at other times like that.

    I’m UK too and as others have said we do not have an off position.

    I have mine set to the lowest setting so they come on as late as possible but they still have a tendency to come on unexpectedly sometimes and can cause confusion to other drivers who can think you are flashing them to pull out.

    You can't turn Auto headlights off but you can adjust the sensitivity with Carista. I usually do what RCO said and switch to the next position on the switch (parking/sidelights) if I don't want them on.

    lol I completely forgot you don't have DRLs.

    In Canada, the headlights are DRLs on the Gen 4 so switching it to the next position (parking lights) still keeps the headlights on (and in fact looks like you have the full suite on... the headlights are "oh-so-slightly" dimmer than regular dipped beam. :oops:

    We do have DRLs, but they are separate from the heads. They are located with the Fogs as a vertical line of 3HI LEDs. As Alan has said before they only come on after starting up when you engage forward gear.

    I would like the DRL's to stay on when the headlights are on to give a more distinctive look. I know it is possible as I have seen this on YouTube clips, so maybe its another regional thing...... like the auto door locks :confused:

    I believe some have modified their cars to do that. In our lower trims where the headlights are used as DRLs, that is not an issue.

    I'm sure it was someone from UK told me - start with ParkBrake ON - and the DRLs don't come on. Works on mine. They come on as the ParkBrake is OFF.

    Apparently they come on when you select a gear too, but I couldn't test that without getting out of the car. Was a suggestion for Drive In Movies.

    Yeah a regional thing.

    Your DRLs are used as "clearance lights" in North America. So they're only on when the parking lights or headlights are on.

    That works, I probably never noticed it before as I don't often use the manual parking brake.
