My daughter had to brake really quickly. After she started driving again, it started to shake. When she got home, she started it and it made this terrible noise and continued to make it until we shut it off. HELP!!! Thank you
she said it stop doing it a little bit when she was driving home(about a mile), though it was still rattling
it doesn't shake/rattle as much if you give it some gas, but as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator, it does it. Thank you for responding. We have no idea.
This is my first time on any forum so excuse my naivity. If I give it gas, the shaking/rattling stops a little. She was able to drive home(about a mile). She said it doesn't do it as bad when driving.
Coincidence does not make causation; I don't know that the braking event and noise are related, especially if the noise is engine related. The braking system on a Prius is not much like a "normal" car: There is no vacuum brake booster, the brakes are applied electrically (under most conditions) and an electric pump provides the "boost" (aka power part of power brakes). Depending on the noise, it might be related to the brake booster pump or control assembly. You can check by applying the brakes with the car off, if you get the same noise, I would confidently say it is brake system related.
Have no idea how to fix it. She wouldn't be able to drive it if the transmission was messed up would she?
When we hit the power button, it is quiet. When the engine starts, that is when it makes a shaking/rattling sound. That stays until you turn the car off.
NOT trying to panic anyone, but...... this may be a bad transaxle bearing as documented by Luscious Garage: Gen 2 Prius (2004-2009) Transmission Failure, P0AA6, P0A92, P0A7A - Luscious Garage | Hybrid Specialists
That is what we call a "dead hole misfire", could be a bad coil, unplugged coil or fouled/bad sparkplug. I have even seen coil boots that were so badly degraded that the spark jumped thru them instead of going thru the sparkplug and igniting the air-fuel mix. Last tune-up was when, if you know and what exactly was done?
they replaced a coil a while back. There is more than one, correct? I know nothing about cars. I didn't think it was the transmission because she could drive it. It makes that god awful noise when she drives, but not near as bad
