    2018 info updated.

    Carryover model for Canada

Apparently a rear seatbelt use notification/alert is now standard (similar to what Europe has on their cars including Prius)

In UK the rear seatbelt warning come on when you've opened one of the rear doors, regardless of passengers in there or not. The lights go out again after about 7 seconds when there's no one in the back, but don't know if there's any nagging when a seat IS occupied.

In mine there are 3 lights corresponding to the rear seating positions. If someone occupying a position is belted, that light is not lit.

Same here I'd say, but the indicator is way over the far side from the driver whichever side the steering wheel is on. Over here the law requires rear occupants to be belted up, but honestly, I never check...
.. so technically, I'm an offender!

Perhaps a US feature? @krmcg could check his 2016. I believe he was the first one here with a Gen 4.

I thought you started on here with a 2016 Gen 4! You seem to change your car more often than I change my mind.:ROFLMAO:

Older people are more set in their ways... :D
I bought a 2017 model year Prius in October 2016. It has almost 13K miles on it now.

So did I, but it was still a 2016 model afaik. Maybe your American ordering system works differently to ours.

Perhaps @Tideland Prius can better explain the North American car model year system compared to that of other countries.

What I'm curious about is how you, @RCO , determine generation from model year?

For example, a 2016 Prius is both a 3rd generation and 4th generation car depending if you bought it in January or if you bought it in September? (of even more confusingly if you bought a leftover 3rd generation Prius in September)

The North American system is no more predictable. It used to be that new model year cars were released around end of August or early September the previous year. (2017 in August 2016, for instance.)
Now marketing dictates they be released whenever.
The 2000 Tundra, for instance, was released early in January 1999. The 2016 Prius was released late in December 2016 / January 2017.

Things are too variable & unpredictable in the current North American market, IMHO.
