Oh I’ve been there before. When I was a new driver I got into an accident that wasn’t my fault. The other driver tried to place blame on me despite what the police report said. My dad took it to arbitration with the other guy’s insurance company. We got what we needed from it.

Two pages already and nobody has posted the obligatory, "That'll buff right out".

Thanks! I hope it works out well. The guy admitted to me (possibly to the officer as well?) that he didn’t see me and hit me. So hopefully it will go well. Better than the time my husband was rear ended and the kid (test driving a car he was going to buy) offered him $10 to go away.

Our repair involved no body panel replacement. It's seamless, good paint and about 4 years on: no problems. They're a place we've used for decades, and I trust their judgement.

For us, if it's the other guys fault, it would be zero. If 50/50 or our fault, we're responsible for our deductible ($500).

At least the OP can continue to drive the car while fault is being determined.

Yes! It is still very drive-able. I’m glad that it wasn’t worse and my kids weren’t in the car with me.

That quote is only properly used when the damage won't buff out. But you are excused for bringing it up since you must obviously be French.

Checked with the dealership today and they estimate $1,200 for repairs. The estimate does not include replacing any parts or removing the battery but he said they will remove the battery.

Edit: they have it listed as a Prius V from the estimate but it’s a Prius III. I don’t know if that will matter or if I should correct them on that. Interestingly enough I got a call from the guy’s insurance company today. They don’t handle out of state claims and outsource that to someone local.

Is there any sign that the tire or wheel cover was hit? Is a check on the alignment and of the suspension indicated?

I would buff that out and wait for someone to hit you harder before fixing it.

I would politely inform them of their mistake.
Given identification of the vehicle they are working on is a HUGE part of their job, while perhaps a minor offense it really is inexcusable.
Plus you don't want any "estimate" surprises down the line.

Nope. The tire and cover aren’t scratched or anything. The car drives perfectly fine with no indication of an alignment issue.

Dents don’t buff out. There are dents and this is not just a scratch issue. Considering the last time I was in an accident (also not my fault) was in 2004 I don’t want to wait 13 years for a repair because this won’t get repaired then since it will have already existed.

I’ll let them know when I make the appointment, after I get a check from insurance. I don’t think it will make a difference though on the estimate. I don’t see how that could bring any surprises out later because it’s just body repair work and they all have the same body style, right?

no, the c, v and lift back are all different body styles. it won't matter though, that's just a typo. bodywork is body work.
the final cost is covered by insurance, not just the estimate.

    I don't know.
    I'd want them to know.
I'd want all the paperwork to match, and leave no room for error or challenge later.
Bottom line a Prius V is not a Prius III.
