A couple of weeks ago, we stopped at a store. Got ready to leave and the car would not power up normally. The instrument cluster was showing all kinds of strangeness. We were only a few blocks from the dealer so we walked over there and they came down to jump us off. We immediately drove to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a bad starter battery. They replaced it with a 7 year battery and did some other needed maintenance (belts, etc). They said the hybrid battery pack tested good.

The car was back to it's normal self.

Today, we went to start the car and the instrument cluster will not light up. The motor would start and stop and the energy indicator was showing 7 blue bars (we see green bars regularly in operation). The power and park buttons were not operating as normal. Finally, when I got out of the car, it beeped 3 times.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? The dealer is about 30 miles away ....

    Thx!

You have a known problem in the prius, it's a bad combination meter.

With this problem, you'll have a hard time shutting off the car, you'll need to press the start button for about 5 seconds to turn it off.

Toyota offered a 9 year warranty for this problem but you are over that now

Welcome, Judy. @JC91006 nailed it, I think. You might check with these folks. @Texas Hybrid Batteries is a member here and has a good reputation.
