The dealer probably just thinks you're making a mountain out of a mole hill!!
They don't have an answer, so they probably hope you'll just go away!
They just want to change your oil and filter and make sure you have liquid in your windshield washer container; these mysteries you bring them must be solved by adults, ergo, people like Uncle Bob! I've run into this mindset all the time at car dealers, and in the IT business (NEVER ask Microsoft, or Symantec for help!). Finding those rare caring individuals with the knowledge and patience to help you solve these "minor" problems (now called "Issues"! Lord, stop me from choking them!), is getting harder and harder!! Your only solace is that, eventually, the VERY loudly squeaky wheel does get the grease!

Without data to support it, that's exactly what it is. Unless you are armed with detail, there's nothing to actually research.

This is no different than when a user calls our Help Desk with a vague software issue. If you have little to follow, it is unlikely there will be a resolution.

    We are pursuing parallel paths:
    • replication - trying to find a way this intermittent problem can be triggered at will. We're using video recording to document these events. I'm less successful than @priuscatprimeguy but did have two incidents observed out of less than ten attempts. The sad thing is living in SouthEast Toyota region, the climate makes replication at the dealer difficult.
    • techstream - we are waiting on getting a pirated techstream that works with our Prius Prime.

So I mounted the dash cam and went for a test drive. At 57F, ‘Front Defrost’ turned on but the engine stayed off. It turned on the Auto mode heater but no further effect.

This suggests there is an upper temperature limit on the engine starting, Front Defrost.

FYI, the Scangauge sleep mode appears to work.

The 12V pin on the OBD connector is always on. So any OBD monitor needs a low power, sleep mode to avoid draining the 12V battery. My first attempt stayed on Saturday night. So I changed the sleep mode and it worked perfectly Sunday.

  12. How do I activate this "sleep mode" on the Prime? I tried both COM and VOLT settings, but either the ScanGauge stayed on, or it would sometimes turn off while driving on electric. Do I have to send in my ScanGauge to get the latest firmware or something?

Since it appears that running my Cruise Control at temperatures below 50 F triggers ICE. I am going to refrain from using cruise control from now on. We'll see how that works out:cool:

I'd like to see the dealer open up a screen with all the temperature sensors on it and see if one looks a lot different than the others.

Good. It's possible that using cruise control alters the parameters under which this event occurs. Being consistent about its use will eliminate a variable. Also, using cruise control gives the car more of a say in how it operates, and that could include ignoring the fact that it is in EV mode under some circumstances.

I look forward to seeing the next video.

I would have thought that the cruise is just pressing the accelerator and brake as normal. I guess if it presses the accelerator too hard against a parameter then it might turn on the ice?
