Featured Outlander PHEV Finally Arriving to U.S.

    Yes, we’ve all heard that statement multiple times in the past (we count about ~seven times) and have grown hesitant to believe it, but now it seems like it is really happening.

    Just the other day, Mitsubishi’s U.S. website listed the Outlander PHEV among its offerings. This critical step that comes before selling the vehicle has never happened in the past, so perhaps we are to believe it’s actually coming this time around.    ​

    22 miles electric range and 25 MPG on ICE. For $42-47k!!!

    Not a fan of SUVs in most cases, including the silliness that the vast majority of miles put on them are for single person commuting/errands :(.

    But as long as the insanity continues, might as well shell out thousands more and green it up a bit.

    But in the CUV/SUV market a CRV gets 28/34 these days. Why do I want a 25 MPG plug in?

    what makes it so popular in europe? i know hill has been raving about it for years. i suppose it would be nice if landrover owners et al switched to them.

    You know the top model is only $40k, right? InsideEVs was just checking every single accessory (there are no option packages on the GT S-AWC).

    But yeah that 25mpg is appalling. It can't be right. A RAV4 hybrid can manage 33 mpg. I would think the Outlander PHEV can be closer to 30 mpg

    When looking at a PHEV, you compare gallons used over a period of time; a week, month, or year. Yes, 25mpg is horrible if it proves true, but the electric range could mean not using the ICE at all for the owner's typical week.

    High fuel prices makes electric more appealing. The diesel XC60 PHEV was also a big success when it arrived there.

    Except for price, the PIP had similar comments when released. Energi and Prime owners have found an EV range of 20-30 miles reduces daily gas usage significantly. It's also one of the few plug-ins rated for (light) towing. Having said that, the Outlander is too late to the US market and would have been a big success here if it would have been imported back in 2013 which seems ages ago. The race is on!

    Fool me once, but Mitsu fool me 23 times with the "soon to be released" Outlander PHEV.

    Too little, too late at this point.

    maybe between the crv not having what ... 500ish Lbs of batteries? & - iirc the mitsu plugin is AWD? if crv offers it - does the 28/34 apply? just speculating
    it's been so slow to (maybe) get to the US - that the body style changed since its release in the rest of the world. And you know what that means ..... think how each iteration of the RAV4 has grown in size & weight. But yea - the delay got us to throw away our welcome mat & opt for the Model X's - higher efficiency, safety & towing capability. Hey Mitsu, the early bird gets the worm .... you snooze, you loose .... he who hesitates, has had it .... on your feet, you'll loose your seat

    I've literally purchased two vehicles since it was first announced years ago. The second one is actually a Mitsubishi Outlander, a 4 cyl ICE. Mine is rated at 27 mpg so the 25 mpg on the PHEV is a little odd.

    Luckily for Mitsubishi, there is still zero competition for a PHEV SUV.

    Yea, the larger CRV does 25/31 ... so things aren't too far off.
    Maybe a better comparison is the RAV4 hybrid?

    RAV4 hybrid 34/30
    Outlander phev 28/25 (but 54mpge)

    oh - and $35.5K price quoted on this site (before state/fed rebate/incentives)

    Would have been nice to see the Mitsubishi before choosing, but we a very happy with our 2017 RAV4 Hybrid. Besides...the logistics and economics for any plug-in still don't work for us...work or home.

    Yeah the R4h is a pretty sweet deal right now - good balance of features, price, mpg and decent capability (in terms of AWD-i for light duty purposes)

    It would be nices if there were a non-AWD option with higher mpg for those that do not need AWD. (former Prius v users, for instance)

    AWD actually increases mpg (compared to traditional AWD which reduces mpg). The extra rear electric motor is used for regen and can help boost the amount of stored energy due to regen braking. It also doesn't add too much weight (wiring + motor... vs. a steel centre shaft and rear differential).


    I don't have the numbers but when the 1G RXh was offered in both FWD and AWD, the AWD had a slightly higher EPA rating)

    Thanks. I thought Iremembered some speculation that if the Gen 4 has e-AWD the mpg would be lower.
