The dealer gave me one, it does come with the bag. Very good quality.

How much is the traditional 3rd gen cover? Don't ask?

(Semi rhetorical question, I think I recall, the price was just nuts. And it's only standard on high end models, where you lose the spare? I'm shooting from the hip: should look it up and update this post.)

Yeah checked in the 4th gen (US) levels summary:

Visual Tables of Gen4 Package Combinations | PriusChat

Old-style roller cover is only on the level 4 (either 15" or 17" wheels) and both nix the temp spare.

I have the substantial cover. Fits into a nice well below the deck in the cargo area. I have never used it and have no intention to do so. But it is nice to know that it is a coveted item...

A fair bit more coveted, the numbers here:

Interior Trim - Rear Body for 2016 Toyota Prius | Toyota Parts

Hmm, Toyota Canada just says "tonneau cover" for all Canadian levels, no differentiation. We took some snaps of a demo on the lot at our nearby dealership, and sadly, I'm thinking the bag in this pic contains the "lethal unfolding" style:

@Tideland Prius would know, neither here nor there for US, but I'm idly curious.

I've yet to see a Technology up close but as far as I know, the base and Touring have the fabric tonneau cover.

My UK model (Business Edition - somewhere between US 3 and 3 touring) has a donut spare and the roller cover.
Can't understand why the international markets vary so widely for just one car! (n)

Oh, I forgot to mention the 15" wheels on mine as well. Up one model in the range and you get the bigger wheels which incur daily surcharge in London and other congestion aware cities.

It seems like there's an ever diminishing "sweet spot", between the base and top levels. A lot of the top level "features" are undesirable to me, and the deletions in base model seem punitive.

For me, with the Canadian levels, there's not one level I'm happy with: that sweet spot has disappeared, lol.

Geesh, looking at Toyota UK, no levels have temp spare?

I'll have to check with a dealer Mendel, but my 2016 year model certainly has one. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I believe they mix items you won't want in amongst one thing they guess you will desire as a more expensive pack option.

It's the same for almost any car. It's just we've become more aware as more international owners join a single forum (instead of just country-specific ones) and share their experiences. This is why I love PriusChat - we have a number of international owners that are willing to join the discussion and hopefully gain enough experience such that when other new members join from their home country, they can become their country's ambassadors and help out. (rather than someone else in another country guessing what the issue might be)
