You can turn on your rear defrost without effecting your EV range. It is the front defrost that you don't want to force on or the engine may kick on and use gas.

19 degrees this morning. I used the seat warmer, heated steering wheel, and the heater on the lowest setting and it was just fine on my drive.

Ok next concern is what if I have a lot of ice in my windshield after a snowstorm etc...and it needs to melt off or if it gets foggy upfront?

Then you turn on EVERYTHING you need to be safe. Bad weather, be safe first and play with mpg later. Weather trumps all, if you can't see.

I would say the samething as @Mark57 has said. You can do what you can with preheating the car and putting the climate control on AUTO ECO. If that still isn't enough after scraping the ice off too, do what you have to do to get the windshield clear after it is clear, you may revert back down to just AUTO ECO or nothing at all if it stays clear.

  7. Do you have a second key? Put that in the car, start it, max the heat, defroster, and rear defogger. If your charge is below 80%, also put into CHG mode (hold the EV/HV button for three seconds, do this anytime after green READY is on). Lock that key, go back inside, have some coffee, then come back out and wipe the snow/ice off. It uses the most energy but provides the most safety and gets the snow/ice off faster. Have fun and play around with high mpg when spring comes back.

I’m not doing bad now. 118mpg average. I have driven 470 miles and still have 3/4 of a tank left. :)

I just wonder how many EV miles and mpg I’ll lose starting tomorrow when my Michelin’ X-Ice tires get put on.

Does anyone here have any real world data on winter tires? I read some info, but not enough to know 100%.

If I use Remote A/C in the morning before leaving for work while plugged in, will the heat kick in if I didn’t have the heat on when I turned off the vehicle the night before?

What will happen in that case because when I click on Remote A/C something kicks in. Or could I briefly turn on the vehicle, turn on the heat and turn off the vehicle. How long will Remote A/C take to work in that case.

As soon as your doors unlock, the climate control will shut off.

So Remote A/C works with the last known settings the night before or last known settings when the vehicle shut off? If it’s the latter I should be able to briefly turn on the heat, turn off the vehicle and turn on Remote A/C with heat.

It goes by the last setting before the car is shut down.
