Ok, is it just me or would others liked to have the electric charge port on the drivers side rather than the passenger side. It's sort of a PITA to get out and have to walk around the car to plug it in all the time. I guess some percentage of people will have their charger on the right hand side, so those people would have had to walk around the car, but by putting it on the right side they're forcing people to walk around the car 100% of the time rather then the 50% it should have been.

I would rather have had them swap the gas and electric inlets.

a lot of talk over the years. it's mixed, depending on where your power is and how you park.

since my power is left, and i park left, front first, i ran the cable overhead and hang it coiled on an old flowerpot suspended from a beam across the ceiling.

I pull my car into the right side of the garage, and when I walk out, I plug in on the right side; perfect setup! Since I frequently unload the trunk, it works out great. Otherwise, if port were on driver side front, I'd have to back up the car; not good for unloading. Front, passenger side would be ok, but not as good as current setup.

This is a Japanese car, and was designed for right hand drive first. The port is on the right side for Japan.

I agree I pull my car in with the passenger side next to my garage. So it works well for me.

What occurred to me yesterday, regarding the "stupid" central positioning of the top instrument cluster (hateful for us enthusiasts who want instrumentation near to, and canted to the driver!) is because the factory wants to save money when manufacturing cars for left-hand and right-hand drives. I say make 'em all left-hand drive like God intended and cant the instruments to the driver; also add the tach, coolant temperature, etc. as digital gauges!

Plus 1 for the right side is right...But I expect a generally split poll here with some minority deciding it should be in front or back..

Something that would also charge my phone from several rooms away and maybe even eliminate the need for a microwave oven in the kitchen...

My vote would be for the left side, but I believe the comments concerning the right side is due to the Japanese market makes sense.

My problem is that my garage is “short” and I can’t get to the right side of the car unless the garage door is open. The front is within inches of the wall, and the rear is within inches of the closed garage door (had plenty of room with my previous Fiat 500e to walk completely around the car). I work out the forward collision system every time I park: inch forward until the system brakes the car with just enough room at both ends.

The problem may show later today. I returned home this morning with 12 electric miles remaining, and did not plug-in. If I decide to plug-in this evening, I’ll have to raise the garage door to get to the right side. Not a huge deal, but I need something to complain about

Me? I would have put the plug under the emblem, in the front. Or on the driver side front fender, moving under the hood the battery charger that now sits under the rear seats, instead of the ridicolously large, conventional 12V battery, and probably getting back the fifth seat.. But all these modifications would have impacted the original Gen 4 chassis design, raising the production costs and ultimately the retail price...
Well, all in all the plug stays well were it is.

I am happy with the location. And I am especially pleased that they provided a long enough charging cable so I can easily reach the the AC outlet about six feet in front of the car on the wall of the garage. I also run it to a bicycle hook on a ceiling beam so it is easy to hook up and easy to put it out of the way.

I thought there was a "standard" for the fuel filler on the left side. If that's actually the case, the charge port is on the right side for that reason. But the nice thing about "standards" is there are so many to choose from. ;)

I'd also rather have it up front. One of the chargers I commonly use won't reach to the rear, so I have to back in.

  18. My vote would be to move all of the "ports" to the front of the vehicle. This will make it easier to just pull in to an EV charging parking spot at a future "gas station" where cars park in rows into charging ports and not worry about tripping over the cables walking around people's cars.

Not to mention, future cars won't have to worry about putting a combustion engine in there, that space can be reserved for more battery cells.

Well it works for us because the GF has a Chevy Bolt and its on the drivers side front. She hates to back in. I always back in and EVSE is on my side on the house wall as I back in.
