Featured Nio China 200 mi EV

Ah! Thanks for the map! I’m very familiar with the system of the license plates in China (my wife is from 哈尔滨, and we mostly speak Mandarin at home, in Austin!) but I hadn’t ever seen a map that ... well, “maps” the provinces to their abbreviated forms on the license plates. Good stuff!

Most of them, not surprisingly, are the first character of the Province name, but not entirely...

I'd actually never worked out what 琼 was - I'd seen them around, but hadn't associated them with Hainan.

Qióng means Hainan, apparently. Which means South Island for those playing along at home.

If cars appear on those new island appearing, they will have Hainan plates.

I nearly got hit by one of these a couple of weeks ago in Beijing.





It's a very convincing copy of a Suzuki Jimny/SJ. But it's less than 2/3 of the size, like the other licence-free electric cars in Beijing.

So convincing in fact that this, combined with the fact that I couldn't hear it, made me think it was a real Suzuki 100 metres further away than it actually was.

Fire@33. Sichuan food is heavy on chili pepper (la jiao). Anesthesia is from hua jiao, or flower pepper, or prickly ash. A flavor (and effect) I do not much like.
