Guys how does the traction battery fan work?

i remember that before when i started driving the car i would hear the fan speed loud and i would put my hand in the inlet and i would feel the fan suction, this would give me peace of mind knowing my battery is being cool off but not recently i haven't hear this fan speed fast, reason i am asking this question is cause i got the check hybrid system message on my 2013 prius c and i pull the battery to check each cell and they where all at 7.6 volts, this tells me my battery is good which is why i want to troubleshoot the fan.

btw is not my 12v battery because is a new battery and guys please give me ideas i am pretty good at DIY.

actually, to test the battery modules, you need to put them under load.
assuming they turn out to be fine, why not open up your cooling system and clean everything?
the fan works off of a battery temperature sensor. it is multisided, and the warmer the battery gets, the higher the fan speed.
being in miami, this is an important item to maintain.
how many miles on your car?

my car has 120k miles since i use it for work a lot (uber) and thats the thing i make sure i have my fan inlet clean from lints/dust
when i took off the battery i didnt notice anything dirty, but i tell you this its been a while since my fan kicked high speed i just haven't heard it like i used to. Right now the car is clear of codes and no check hybrid system message on since i took of the 12v battery and reset the computer, i put everything together and drove it from Miami to Homestead fl with no issue but i didnt notice the traction battery fan i can feel it spin but very minimal.

of course, it would be a lot nosier in summer than now. a scan gauge would show you if it is on, and what speed.

here is another thing i did @bisco, i cover the inlet of the fan while I was driving in traffic in EV to see if the fan would kick in high speed and it did not i also put my hand on the top of the traction battery and the cover was warm.

put a kleenex on the intake grille. if the fan is running, it will stay in place.

not easy to do without a scan gauge. you may have to wait until may or june.

that makes sense, if you need heat, the battery does not need cooling.

Fan does not always run at high speed. It's winter time temps are cooler, less need for high fan for cooling. I would think I would be more concern if the fan ran at high speed all the time, that would indicate the batteries are running too hot.

Okay another thing that I've been noticing on the car is that let's say I can have a full charge on the traction battery but the car doesn't want to kick on ev, the ice it's always running even if I am at a complete stop while I have a full charge any ideas what that could be?

I have never heard that fan run in either C I've had.
The fan only runs on high when it needs to.
The engine will sometimes run to maintain heat when you have the cabin heater ON.

BUT.....just because the 12V battery is new doesn't necessarily mean that it is good.
Was the charging voltage checked after the replacement ?
Was the new one fully charged BEFORE being installed ??
Some 12 V problems turned out to be bad connections on the main cables; either end.

That code says the large Hybrid traction battery has issues, not the 12 Volt auxiliary battery
We have some very knowledgeable users that could advise better than I. @ericbecky , @2k1Toaster , @SpaceCityHybrids may have suggestions.

Several people here have worked with Prius batteries, but I do not know the battery differences for Prius c. Perhaps @Tideland Prius knows the technical differences.
@Raytheeagle is always good for traction battery troubleshooting advice. "Remanufactured" batteries are generally a gamble because they are repaired with used modules from other old batteries.

Some people are able to locate a junkyard battery from a lower mileage wreck. Otherwise, if you are DIY, perhaps @2k1Toaster can sell a battery kit. The Gen 3 Prius kit costs $1600, including shipping. not sure about Prius c.

If you have android device you will wand to get a bluetooth obdii scanner and use the Torque pro app so you can watch live data.
As well as do you own scans/clearing codes.

I would suggest you take it to the dealer to inspect. Does Florida have the same warranty as California 10 years or 150,000 miles on the hybrid system?
