Mankind has always explored the unknown. It is part of the reason we have been successful as a species.
It will take decades to set up a colony that could support mankind, more likely centuries. Waiting until we see the killer asteroid coming to start, will end our species.

It is a stepping stone to planetary moons further out.
    We are a curious species.

if we can survive on mars - it might mean
we can survive in other impossibility inhospitable places, like Detroit.

Why? I like Tesla cars. They are easy on the eyes and a disputing product. Car industry and oil industries need disruption.

his feelings have been hurt/ofended as people (self included) continuously & honestly post/counter the falsities of hydrogen cars like the Toyota Mirai, which he loves. Follow his posts back to see. A significant amount pertain to Tesla bashing. One has to just expect it for what it is.

Nice video, but the apes at the left seems bolder than the ones on the right.

These strange appearance of that tower, is the same reactions you'd get when you place a mirror, in the presence of an animal. Try that with a chicken, or goat. You'd laugh all day.:D

But y would Musk just expend his energy on the existing orders on the model 9, than spending that much time on stuff like these? Its publicity, I know, but be focussed at once MUSK!

Exactly. He's being the one responsible for the current paradigm shift gradually from fossilized powered vehicles to a more efficient system right now.

    I love the guy though.

Publicity is what he does best. This is the obligatory distraction needed to get people pumped up to buy the secondary.

i can't imagine it being any worse than some of the massive plastic trash islands we've created around the globe.

At least space junk burns up upon reentry, for the most part. Plastic lasts & lasts

But just for lock down engine tests. It might still blow up on the pad before launch. Musk has said so. I'll bet the roadster isn't in there just yet. And speaking of the Roadster, it has to be specially modified for space travel. The tires are to be replaced with fake tires, and many of the rubber parts (along with other things like gas struts) are being replaced as well, because they'll disintegrate badly as it hits the upper atmosphere (if it makes it that far). He's going to have the radio blast space songs out for as long as the battery lasts, even though in space, nobody can hear you scream.
