    Ah OK.
I was pretty sure it was fine, but for a moment there I second guessed myself thinking it might be a spam link. Lol.

OK guys, replacement block is installed and after a few failed attempts to boot it finally did wake up and work correctly. It's got a mind of its own. I would have expected the same symptoms as last time and I would have at least expected it to through some fault codes, but now I know anything is possible with this weird car. I wonder if clearing the codes to get it home had any adverse effect, causing some of these unusual circumstances. Any thoughts?

So it is fixed??? Or do you subsequent statements indicate it is not fixed???
What does this mean? Usually, the means because someone does not understand how a machine works, when it does things it is a mystery.
    Why?
No, should not have any bearing on subsequent problems, if there are subsequent problems.
Your post seems contradictory to me and I have no certainty as to whether your car is fixed or still has problems.

Anytime I plan to remove an HV battery, the first thing I do is remove the 12v battery negative cable from its battery post. Then I remove the orange safety disconnect from the HV battery. Then I take care of whatever I was planning to do. Once the HV battery is re-installed, I insert the orange safety disconnect and then attach the 12v negative cable back onto the 12v battery. I sit in the driver seat, press the start button once, and wait about 3-5 seconds and press it again. Every single time, the car has followed the same pattern and returned to normal operation within a couple seconds of pressing the start button the second time.

How did you perform your work?

Yes, dolj, the car is working perfectly for now, but I know it is only a matter of time before I must whack the next mole. I plan to get a whole new pack next time or maybe sooner.

No, TMR-JWAP, I did not do the work same as you. It sounds like you have been working on these hybrids for a while. I will remember your protocols for my next experience. I'm glad to see that the start button needs to be pressed twice. I thought that was abnormal. Maybe it was, I seem to remember trying more than twice.

    OK gentlemen, I have wacked the mole twice and it appears that the season is on for failing cells. Looking at options for replacement batteries, I find;

"Reconditioned" such as the offering from "Green Bean Battery" which looks good and has a 5 year warranty, and they come to your location and install it for you. But, I remain suspicious of any "reconditioning" of a sealed unit that can not be opened without destruction. That said, it appears they have a process that may be valid.

Also there is an option on ebay for a new aftermarket battery pack from Concentrated Batteries in California. They use round cells and have designed a pack to fit in the original battery housing and uses the original battery control system. This one comes with a 3 year transferable warranty.

Both options come in around $1500. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Impressive the ebay option doesn't even know the correct OEM rating of the Panasonic prismatic modules, yet claim their batteries are equal. Ummm. Have you looked at their ebay feedback? It's a 1. From someone buying a scarf or something. The chances of me sending them $1500...about ZERO, ever...My feeling is they have NO CLUE what they are doing.

If you decide to go with the cylindrical design, I would easily chose to use the ones from forum member 2k1toaster.
If you decide to stick with OEM design, why not purchase the battery from a 2015 or 2016 wreck and build it yourself using those modules.

Either option allows you to keep your old modules to do with as you please. I'd offer you some options, but Detroit is slightly out of my zone.

Great ideas. I am not set on the cylindrical design, it's just an attractive looking offer and I have had great luck with Panasonic batteries in the past. Am I correct in assuming "2k1toaster" is a member of this forum and makes battery packs? How much? Contact?

I didn't know that the newer generation Prius uses the same batteries (modules) . I am not in Detroit. Currently I am in southern Florida for the winter. You have options to offer? I will check local yards in this area.

the car is 11 years old, you can expect very expensive repairs in the future... digital dash $1200 at dealer, brake actuator $3200 at dealer, excessive oil consumption requiring a rebuild $1500 and so on.. .is it worth investing 1500 into it or sell it now and get something else.. id dump it.

Brake actuator/accumulator was just done under warranty, electronics all working as they should, engine runs well w/o excessive oil consumption. Florida car=no rust. Cars value with bad battery = zilch, with new battery probably $4500 to $5000. I do my own work so investment is limited to parts cost. I have never paid a dealer for a repair and I am nearly 6 decades old. Where in Florida is one likely to find a pack from a late model Prius?

I find it incredible that 2k1toaster starts his post with the same verbage as the ebay listing. Either 2k1toaster is selling his battery on ebay or someone is copying someone elses writeup. And there is more the same as well.

    From the ebay listing:
    What is this?
This is a DIY kit to completely and fully replace your aging or dead Toyota Prius Hybrid Battery (a.k.a. Traction Battery) with brand new battery modules, bus-bars, battery wiring harness, and interconnects. You retain your original metal enclosure and hybrid ECU.

Will this work with my Vehicle?
This is meant for Generation-2 Toyota Prius vehicles, model years 2004 through 2009. We also have kits available for Generation-1 (2001-2003) and Generation-3 (2010-2015) available with request. These modules will work in any number of Toyota and other makes that use the same Panasonic battery design, but the wiring kit is specific to the Prius. With extra (and non-supported) DIY, you could potentially make it work with many more vehicles.

    How Much?
For $1490 you will get a brand new hybrid battery backed by a 3-year and unlimited mileage with a full transferable warranty, There is nothing comparable out there. All other options that are not original Toyota Hybrid packs, are used modules. Some are refurbished and/or balanced to be better matched with one another, but they are still all used batteries from wrecked, salvaged, totalled, or other failed Prius vehicles. When you start driving on your new pack, it starts with zero miles on it, just like a brand new Prius from the factory.

    And from 2k1toaster:

    How Much?
For $1600 and approximately 4 hours of installation time, you will get a brand new hybrid battery backed by a 2-year or 25,000 mile warranty including fleet vehicles. There is nothing comparable out there. All other options that are not original Toyota Hybrid packs, are used modules. Some are refurbished and/or balanced to be better matched with one another, but they are still all used batteries from wrecked, salvaged, totaled, or other failed Prius vehicles. In contrast these batteries from NewPriusBatteries.com are brand new and never used. When you start driving on your new pack, it starts with zero miles on it, just like a brand new Prius from the factory.

An interesting question. I would venture to say the best way to find out is to ask the man himself.

In 2k1toaster's thread he stated that he is not selling on ebay as his product sells about as fast as it gets delivered from China.

Todd (@TampaPrius.com) keeps a stock of them of varying years for varying prices. I am totally satisfied with the set from a totaled 2015 that I bought from him for my wife's '07. Mine even came with a Carfax report. Do yourself a favor and see Todd. I don't work for him, but if I needed a job, I'd apply there.

Not my listing, not my cells. They aren't red. So know you know you have an eBayer with low rating that blatently copy/pastes (i.e. steals) from other websites. Screams scam to me...
