Has anyone installed tie-down loops and/or cargo net hooks in a Prius Prime? My old '05 Prius had D-shaped loops in the four corners of the cargo area, and four plastic hooks near the back for clipping in a mesh cargo net (which came with the car). I used both of these features a lot for the last 13 years!

I just switched to a new '17 Prime, and didn't realize that the Prime has neither the tie-downs nor the hooks. :( I tried searching PriusChat threads in several ways to see if anyone has installed either the tie-down loops or a cargo net in a Prime, but only found an occasional mention that the Prime does not have them.

If you have have added these features to your Prime, please tell me how you did it. Some pictures would be great, too! Thanks in advance! :)

Would there be weld-nuts or whatever is used on regular fourth gen Prius body, to anchor the D rings? (n)

Still, would they be "submerged" by the raised hatch deck? Maybe still usable though.

The regular Prius manages it, believe the anchors actually connect to the sidewalls. Again, the weld-nuts or whatever would likely be a bit below the top of the Prime battery. But maybe the D-rings could still connect, and extensions run up to top of carpet level?

Above the floor where they don't act as tie-downs. My 2004 had tie-downs (D-rings embedded into the floor).

So does my Gen 4. No photos since it stays below freezing here for several days.

I'm looking at my pictures of a Gen 4, and they are clearly above the floor.

The indents on the sides of the cargo area near the rear seat is where they normally would be.

Those intentions on the Prime are well above the D-ring mounts on the G4. The mounts would be below the top of the battery.

Yeah but are they shaped in a similar way? Otherwise, why did Toyota include those indentations?

There are 2 D-Rings on the floor near the door too. I think they are covered by the mat in the photo.

Took a look at ours, albeit 3rd gen, the ones at the hatch opening, in the corners. They're mounted to the sub-floor wall, a single 10 mm (socket size) bolt into a weld-nut, and there's an orientation tab as well, going into a small hole below the weld-nut:

    Don't know.

There are, they just aren't shown in that picture. They are also above the floor.

What is involved in removing that cargo hatch floor to expose the battery like you have done in this photo? You said it's easy, but I searched and couldn't find a thread here that explains how to do it. Are tools necessary?

It's in a thread with a title of something like I found the missing 4 in of cargo space it's under the battery.

Do you think that the holes those Gen4 D-rings mount to are present in the Prime? If so, are there four of them? Couldn't you just buy the four D-rings and mounting screws from Toyota, mount them in the Prime, and then run something like pieces of heavy-duty nylon cargo straps up to the elevated deck of the Prime's cargo area (attaching them to the D-rings at their other end)?

Yeah take a look. If the Prime body is the same, I'd suspect there's holes and weld-nuts per regular Prius.

Until such time as Toyota or someone else comes up with a real fix to this problem, I'm using the following workaround: I bought a collapsible cargo bag of the type intended as a rooftop carrier, and of a size that fits the cargo area. I secure it to the child safety anchors behind the rear seats using the straps provided with the bag. I put my luggage in the bag and zip it up. Of course this isn't perfect because it doesn't secure the rear of the bag, but it seems better than nothing. Another possibility might be to install the type of barrier sold as a means to keep pets in the cargo area from getting into the passenger compartment,

Indeed there are weld nuts behind the plastic plugs in the forward tie-down locations in the Prius Prime. The Gen 3 d-rings will bolt right on to them. I only needed to make a small cut in the upholstery for the indexing tab to pass through. There's a hole behind for it to slot into. The plastic plugs require some persistence to remove. Just keep working them from different sides and they will slowly come out.
I'm going pull some interior panels and search for similar mounting points in the rear end of the cargo compartment. One has to wonder why Toyota installed the mounting points but left off the d-rings.
