Ok... So Edison is forcing me to a time of use billing in a couple of months. I don't see how this is going to make it cheaper for me since I don't use much electricity in the first place.

With this said... It really made me look at the charging schedule feature on my Premium. The reason I didn't use it before is because from what I could figure out (and it could be user error!) is that it's not intuitive enough to know when I'm charging at home (to restrict the charging to say 10PM to 7AM) but then charge again all day when I'm at work without having to manually override it. This is particularly annoying because I forgot to manually override on a couple of occasions and it didn't charge all day at work.

Do you guys concur that my best option is to get an outlet timer for home so that I don't have to worry about setting up a recharge schedule and mess with the manual charge feature? If so, any recommendations for one? I usually see the mechanical timer (the one that rotates like a click and turns on/off depending on where you put the pins). What about anything more complex that connects to wifi - any advantages to those?

    Thanks for your expertise!

You can set more than one schedule, so one for home normal times, and one for work.

Also manual charge now is easiest done by plugging in your cable, unplugging it, and plugging it back again, it's easier to remember.

You can turn on Charge Now when you get out of the car, with a single button push.

I have never lived anywhere that had TOU grid power, so I am clueless here.

It would sound like plugging your Prius into a timer would make sense.

My house is on Solar-Power. What makes the most sense for me is to only charge during day-light. Otherwise the charge comes from my household batteries.

I wish there was a method to parallel the Prius with my household battery-bank.

Here's a sample of the schedule (as it appears on the big screen), showing both my overnight & work charge times...

So you have No public utility power? Are your DC battery pack connected to a inverter?
