Depends on how you approach it;).

In the Intelligent Discharger, there are 3 built in voltages: 134, 84 and 17 volts to Discharge down to.

If you do all 3 voltage levels, it can take 4-6 days.

If you do a top end balance, you’re looking at 24-40 hours.

The only temperature I am concerned about (just due to geography) is over 100 F and not do the process above that.

Other than that, it is fair game(y).

Ouch!!! 24 to 40 hours just for a top end? This would be my daily, I can't have my car off for over a day, let alone the 4 to 6 days for all three!!!!!

If you have battery issues (and buying a Gen2 they are just around the corner) this is a small time penalty.

Otherwise it is “whack-a-mole” or a new battery;).

    Those are the going choices(y).

It's a touring which answers the question in a nutshell, lolol, at least for those who have a grasp of package options. It basically has everything, Nav, bluetooth, back up camera, stability, SKS, and all the other bells and whistles. Current asking is $5,500. Mileage is a little high at 168K.

I was affraid of that. You have to have a second vehicle to use during the down period.

It's a small time penalty for those who have more than one car they have access to. For someone like me it would be catastrophic. I'm not saying it's not a good thing, just saying how difficult it would be for me.

The charger / discharger will be one of my next forays into car maintenance perfection. My thoughts are since my hybrid battery is showing no signs of ill health and @ 78k miles that the Prolong equipment isn't essential - yet. Currently I believe that it's even more important to maintain the copper bus bars. The battery management does most of the balancing for you if your bus bars aren't oxidized. Otherwise the oxidation can lead to voltage drops inside the pack that throws off the module voltage levels.

Well, I suppose you could rent a car for the week. You can get 7 day rentals from enterprise rental for $130 for compact, Unless you’re under 25.

Here is a link to the Pro series. I think @jeff652 has a posting or 2 here about it.

This is something done every 3 or 6 months. While we are all busy or work schedules are demanding, setting aside some time for reliable transportation is something I was willing to invest in.

It all depends on what you think your time is worth. I know if I spend these chunks of time every so often, it puts off having to invest in a new car or new battery.

Just parts of the equation you are about to enter;).

    Good luck on the purchase(y).

The price seems high for your area. Has it lived its life in the salt? If so, be ready to negotiate :).

Welcome! I just bought a 2007 in July. Mine has everything except navigation (which is a good thing since most smart phones are much better at navigation than dedicated systems). It had 175K miles on it and was a one owner car. I paid $3400 for it and it needed nothing. It was in perfect shape, well taken care of and well maintained. I bought the Prolong system and used it before the winter. My traction battery did not show signs of bad health, but after the Prolong treatment I now see mostly green bars on the SOC display. It really is a great car. If the battery starts to go on mine I will definitely look into a new battery to keep this car going. I think it's worth it. I did have to buy a new 12V battery, but other than that so far so good. Already put almost 10K of my own miles on it. Love it.

Won't Jeffery be using the 2005 Corolla as the second vehicle soon?

Jeffrey, that is a $3,000 car at best. If you buy in the ice box region. More likely than not anything with close to 150,000 miles would be the coffin corner for the batteries. You would be better off buying a Prius from a warmer climate if you are going for a high mileage Prius. I would suggest a higher mileage Prius 3 (early years of that generation).

I traded in my 2008 Prius I believe the highest package with nav, JBL, back up camera and got $3000 for it with 108,000 miles on it and it had a rust spot on the right rear rocker panel and nothing mechanically wrong with it. I looked it up before I traded it in and the book said between $3,000 and $4,000 and I didn't dicker with them about it. I bought it new. I live 40 miles west of South Bend, Indiana.

Aahhh! I thought this was a monthly type thing. I could handle doing this a couple times a year!
