Well, the search is over. I will soon be in the ranks of Prius owners. The search was long and grueling, but I have prevailed!

My new car will soon be a 2009 Prius, grey in color. I think it's a Package 5 or 6, no leather seats, but everything else I think. The current owner has gone all through the car and inspected everything, installed a new 12V battery, new tires, and will have an oil change done by the time I pick it up. The interior is immaculate, the best I've ever seen in a used car. The exterior is fantastic as well, I only saw one very tiny chip on the edge of the hood easily fixed with touch up paint. No chips, cracks or scratches in any of the glass, and all three wipers are new.

The current owner is fully aware I am waiting on my check from the insurance company but it was mailed out Tuesday morning so it "should" be here tomorrow or Friday, deposited and cleared by Monday or Tuesday.

I can't wait to load my 6 work CDs for music!

By the way, what's the black button on the door handle for?

Do you have a smart key?...I think I see a key in the ignition. Smart key you just touch the black thing to lock, if I know what you are talking about,

It does have SKS, I pulled the fob out and put it in my pocket, the car still started up. Thanks for the wisdom!!! Does it also unlock if the fob is in the pocket?

Yup..no hands. On a Gen2 there is a button to turn off the system under the steering wheel, which is helpful to turn off if the car is sitting unused for weeks, as the SKS is a slow drain on the 12v batt.

So awesome!!!!! I love this car and can't wait to pick it up! No chance of the car sitting for one day let alone weeks, LMAO! I deliver pizza so I expect this to have a major impact on my fuel savings!

    Congrats!!

Check out the Knowledge Base as well as the Gen 2 Fuel Economy Forum for tips/tricks

If you really want to know your package, check here 2G Prius (2004-2009) Standard and Optional Equipment (Some Countries) | PriusChat Based on your photos, it does look like a Package #5 (NL Package)

Here are the 5 stages of Hybrid Synergy Drive so you might know why on some occasions, the engine doesn't shut off (e.g. because you're in S3 and haven't come to a complete stop).

I'll let you find the hidden drawer (if you haven't found it yet). It's a cool secret place to store stuff.

You can use voice commands to set the temperature (e.g. "Temperature 72")

Use the SKS to its full advantage :)

    • You can unlock just by grabbing either front door handle
    • To lock, you press the black button. (Cool trick, I would place one finger on the black button as I closed the driver's door - just before I release the door from my hand, I push the black button. If you time it right, the door will close and then lock!)
    • SKS also works for the rear hatch. Press and hold the release button on the hatch and you can unlock and open the hatch in one motion. To lock the car, you can press the black button on the hatch as well)
    • If your key battery is low, there is a mechanical key built into the key fob. Also, you'll have to slot in the key before starting the car if the key battery is low (that's what the slot is for, to the right of the steering wheel, below the button).

    Steering wheel controls
    • In CD mode, press the arrows to skip a track. Press and hold the arrows to change CDs (cycle up or down the CD tray depending on which direction you press)
    • Press and hold MODE to turn off the audio system. Press once to turn it back on.
    • In the winter time, if the engine is in S3 and I have the heater running but I'm stopped at a traffic light, I can have the engine shut off by turning off the heater. I press the AUTO A/C button on the wheel to turn off the climate control. When the light turns green, I'll turn it back on again. It's just a nice trick to save fuel at a traffic light in the winter
    • Under route guidance, if you want the nav to repeat the last turn-by-turn command, press the MAP/VOICE button on the steering wheel. The MAP/VOICE button will also toggle the screen back to the navigation map from another screen.

The tonneau cover can be stored under the floor in the trunk if you need it out of the way

The centre speaker on the dashboard above the 7" MFD is a mono-speaker. Some say the audio sounds better with it disconnected since it's just a filler speaker. (We disconnected ours). It's super easy to remove (just a flatblade screwdriver to pop it up).

Lastly, if the auto-dimming mirror isn't dimming as often as you like (because the rear spoiler blocks the light from the headlights of the car behind from hitting the light sensor on the mirror), you can rotate the mirror upside down so that the light sensor is better exposed to the headlights from behind.

Tideland Prius, thank you so much for those links and info! I am so much wiser now but there were a few things I've learned previously. I can already tell I am going to be spending A LOT of time reading through those pages.

OMG!!! I just found a boatload of videos, apparently put out by Toyota, on a bunch of features on the Prius, many years included, all on Youtube! This link will take you to one and you can scroll for tons more.

I have already made a laundry list of items I want to purchase first thing to set it up the way I want it. First and foremost is a block heater, since I live in a snow prone area it will help tremendously in warming the engine up for normal operation. I also need some all weather floormats, and an MFD visor. For purely aesthetic reasons I want a shark fin antennae. I really dislike the whip and it usually breaks in the car wash anyway.

My only regret is not having any days off until Monday. I could spend all day reading and watching vids on the Prius and not get even a little tired! I must force myself to bed tonight so I can work my shift without yawning all the time!

Tideland mentioned the mechanical key in the fob. Verify it can lock and unlock the doors.
Be sure you get at least 2 fobs or plan on buying one ASAP. If a fob is lost it is much less expensive to replace if you still have a working one.

Actually, I've already thought of that, I already have a new fob ordered, and I did make sure it was the SKS compatible version. Should I order another for just in case?

If the car already has one you should be OK. Be sure the mechanical key works & get the new one cut & tested too.
This past summer we had a user lose their only fob while on vacation. Not a good experience for them.

Actually, I found it while I was doing my inspection of the vehicle. Looks like a great place to stash the really important stuff, title, insurance, chocolate!
