Perhaps, but it may not matter:

Unless Hyundai determines that a battery degraded to low capacity doesn't qualify for the lifetime warranty replacement.

Lifetime battery warranty is for original owner only, even 10 year Powertrain waranty is for original owner only. From resale point of view this then is no different than competition and very rarely a new owner keeps the car for more than 5 years.

How can the price be so low? We will see the sales figures, if they are making a limited supply, then this is nothing but good marketing and not that expensive one even if they have no profit on the car sold. Prime is at 50+k units per year worldwide.

this "lifetime battery warranty" attempt to deceive customers means nothing - because all packs loose capacity. Unless a manufacturer guarantees a pack will still retain X% in perpetuity - it's NOT a lifetime warranty.

the price should fall into our new anti-dumping laws.

The link above fails to mention it - but CARB states, imo, still afford both owners & subsequent owners one of the best protections against failure of traction packs / hybrid systems .... 10yr/150K miles. But it doesn't apply unless there's an ice. EV's need not apply.

Exactly... They'll guarantee the battery will last a "lifetime", but they don't exactly specify a certain level of battery capacity. Hyundai wants the Sales and Market now, and deal with the grumbling of battery woes 6-8 years down the line....

The Sonata hybrid is into its second generation, and the first had this same warranty.

still too soon to know. Consider the 1st gen Honda hybrids as an example. It took 3½ years until the 1st complaints trickled in. Complaints of reduced MPG's. As the Honda traction packs lost capacity, their ICE were forced to pick up the extra load. 1st, just a couple/few mpg's - then a couple more mpg's - then more & more customers. Honda (knew what was going on but) told owners lower mpg's were simply attributed to driving style. Honda told owners it didn't matter if CARB forced manufacturers to guarantee hybrid packs for 10/150K, because the packs were "still within Honda's specs" (some owners simply took Honda at face value). Who knows whether that meant Honda Packs still had 50% capacity left, or 5% left or whatever. Once the truth about lost capacity came out though, Honda continued to Stonewall. Owners had to file a class action to get any relief. Hopefully this won't be a Hyundai situation also, but who knows. After all ... Hyundai has had history of exaggerating their hybrid's MPG's in the past. Maybe the same w/capacity longevity? Might be ok to be leary for at least a couple more years.

pack failure is pack failure. each mfg sets the parameters in their software. toyota sets the triangle and code when the modules go outside those parameters. but sometimes, the car is still running fine.
lifetime warranty only matters when one keeps the car a lifetime. not sure whose lifetime though.

Yeah, but, do they have the infamous "sheep" herding them along into mileage saving oblivion?

I found a way to totally discourage that type of idiot, especially when he wants to squeeze in with insufficient room! Just put my left signal on.........

A car model generation is typically 5 years. The Sonata hybrid is going into its 7th or 8th year between both generations. I vaguely remember issues in the first or second year, and that might be why Hyundai offers this lifetime warranty now. While I'm sure Honda sold more hybrids within the equivalent timeframe, there should be enough Sonata hybrids on the road for signs of any major issues with their battery packs to come to light.

When car company peeps say lifetime, I work on the assumption of 10 years or 150k miles.

    Perhaps you can explain this?

    Plug-in Hybrid Limited $28,300 MSRP*

    Ultimate Package for Limited $3,750
    Power tilt-and-slide sunroof

    Automatic Emergency Braking
    Smart Cruise Control
    Lane Keep Assist

    Rear parking sensors
HID headlights with LED light guide
    Dynamic Bending Light (DBL)
    LED interior illumination
Auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink® and compass
    Wireless device charging
Navigation system with 8-inch color touchscreen display
Infinity® Premium Audio with Clari-Fi™ Music Restoration Technology & 8 speakers
    Blue Link® Connected Car Services
Blue Link® Connected Care Package (complimentary 3 years, enrollment required)
Blue Link® Remote Package (complimentary 3 years, enrollment required)
Blue Link® Guidance Package (complimentary 3 years, enrollment required)

Does this mean to get the same features as on all Prius Primes, TSS-P, it would cost:
    • $32,050 = $28,300 + $3,750

I belong to another forum and told them Hyundai was making a move on car sales worldwide and they laughed at me and here I see it again. Remember when Sony was the number one TV, not anymore.
Hyundai is about the number 4 car manufacturer in the world.
I always thought Toyotas warranty was crappy. You can't beat Hyundai's warranty Toyota doesn't try.
    I have owned a Hyundai since 2005.

Now I haven't checked other features, but in terms of advanced safety ones, the base PHEV Ioniq is the equivalent to the Blue hybrid. So Hyundai isn't offering a mid trim SEL PHEV at this time. A shame.

In order to get the blind spot monitoring with cross traffic alert in the Prime, you have to get the highest trim Advanced for $33,100.

Geez the 'battery warranty deniers' come out in full force every time Hyundai is brought up.

At least Hyundai is giving it a shot...knowing that they have to offer incentives like this to compete with Toyota. It's kind of funny to me that many 'Prius people' whine about not having choice...and then bash nearly every single competitor vehicle that is released.

Ok soapbox off...I'm feeling feisty today. :D

For the record...I have only seen one Ioniq in my area. And only once.

My Hyundai is a 2004 XG350-L, a car that people never knew existed. I never saw it advertised back in the day but was their luxury car before the current line came out. Mine is in like new condition with 15,000 miles on it.
