I am looking to buy a used 2006 Prius but not sure if it would be a good buy. The problem is when u open the door you get the ding but when you put key in and hit the start button you get nothing the screen in the middle don't come on no lights above that on dash come on you can hear I think what is the fuel pump kick on then there is nothing you can hold the brake and it never is ready is this a common and easy fix or should I not waste my money. Thanks for any help... O0o yea I tried to scan with a scan tool and the port will not power the scan tool on. Thanks

How much is it? Miles? It sounds like it has at least a bad combination meter, which lights up the dash info

You'll have to like tinkering with cars to buy this. If you can't diy repairs, avoid a high mileage prius

This car will need a combination meter and possibly a new hv battery. Repaired hv batteries are just band aid repairs, not reliable

It seems like it's not getting power to anything I mean the touch screen does not come on no dash lights come on and there is no power to the obd2 port so I'm not sure if I should just pass on it.

Are the hv batteries that you are referring to the ones that are slim and there is like 26 of them?

If this is going to be your first prius, you should pass on this one

It sounds like the 12 V battery is dead.

A prius has a steep learning curve. If you don't really need this car and just want a science experiment I suggest you pass also.

You don't know how it is electrically and you can't determine it's mechanical shape without hearing it run.

Ok yea she has had the hv batteries all tested and they are good I was thinking maybe it had a bad ground or a bad fuse since the obd port has no power and would hate to pass it up over a fuse and the wife really wanted it lol

If you can hear it run maybe go for it. How long has it been sitting? Has a battery charger been put on it?

    How much?

Next time you check out that car, try to do a car reset. Disconnect the 12v battery for a minute and see if all the electronics come back on when you start it

If you're not getting the scanner accessing the obd2 port, there might be a power/ground problem with that circuitry.

Check the wires attached to the obd for any open, and fix. If they're perfect, look in to the fuses for blown fuse

Will do is there a time it should stay off before I reconnect it? My wife really loves the car and I really love the mpg since she takes my kids back and forth to school everyday so she does around 55 miles a day not counting if she goes anywhere else. I love building show cars and custom rides but never messed with a hybrid but installing Electronics and wiring just seems to me since nothing on the dash is working and it's not starting and the obd2 port not powering up seems to be a fuse or a ground but not sure. Also the battery in her key fob was dead and she just put a new one in it not sure if that has anything to do with it also.

I have not got around to checking the fuses yet she says she has checked every fuse she knows of but that means nothing she don't want to sell the car she just don't have the funds to take it to a dealer and get it fixed and she has put all she can into it trying to fix it I really can't fix it then pay for it if I fix it she most likely will not sell it lol

Here is another question for you wonderful people I know if I change a ecm on a regular car that the new ecm has to be flashed for that car. My question is if you change any of the computers on the Prius do they have to be flashed also how many computers are they I know the one she swapped out is behind the seat.

I don't think any ECUs are at fault on this car. But I did read a ECU needing some special programming after being changed. But I wouldn't worry about it on this car.....but anything can happen with a prius
