This is caused by a known problem, a combination meter, which was covered by 9 year extended warranty. You can fix this for $150 and about 2 hours. The part is available from Matt at texashybridbatteries. Also a member on this forum

Then you've to look for away of getting the car fix, or you buy it as is, since if you fix it as you claim, she might not want yo sell it

Yea just needed a little info before I shell out 1500 bucks and it can't be fixed or if it could it be a 10000 dollar fix not trying to just waste money.

Are you sure the HV battery is even functional?

You've got lots of gambling to do on that car.
Mileage is high, you don't know the running state of CSR yet, whether it has other hidden problems like abs pump, and all that.

If the dash has been taken apart, you might want to see if the dimmer wheel is connected (located left of steering wheel). It controls the brightness of the display

That doesn't really mean much. You probably should think this car needs a battery replacement soon

I wouldn't spend on that car, if I can't see the maintenance records. Y not check I think toyotaowners online to see if all her claims are true?

Think of a flashlight that takes 4 batteries, when it dies, you can get it to work by replacing 1 or 2 batteries. But it'll soon die again

Usually a simple 12v reset will bring that dash light back (for a short period). But replacing the combination meter will fix the problem

It runs, just have a hard time seeing how fast you're going and how much fuel you have left.

And shutting the car down is difficult, requires you to hold the start button down for a few seconds
