We recently sold our 2010 Corolla (Tobias) and are now proud owners of a CPO 2016 Prius (Petyr). It's been pretty interesting finding out how similar these two cars are!

    Size:
When I was researching cars to buy, I wanted to make sure it would fit into our narrow driveway. To my surprise, the Gen 4 Prius was exactly the same dimensions as the 2010 Corolla!: 178.7" Length x 69.3" Width. It was a sign that we were on the right track.

    Windshield Wipers:
I'm notoriously lazy when I decide to sell something. Before we sold the Corolla we had bought a pair of windshield wipers that we hadn't installed yet. Well, recently we've been getting a few spurts of rain and found the Prius wipers were stuttering. I looked up the wiper blade sizes and found out they were the same size as the ones we had bought for the Corolla. Sweet!: Driver 26", Passenger 16"

    Tires:
Just last night we got a flat while driving home from a show. We were a bit bummed because this just happened 1000 miles after we bought the Prius. But I realized that we still had 2 tires left over from the Corolla 2 years ago when we had all 4 replaced. These had 70% tread life left so I was planning to save them and sell them. My laziness rewards us again! Yes, they're the exact same size for both cars: P195/65R15.

It's like Tobias is an organ donor for Petyr! We've been loving the Prius and it's been a pleasant surprise that it shares these similarities with its predecessor :)

There have been several comments by members who have used a Corolla rim as a FULL-SIZE spare wheel on PRIUS. I'll do that if/when I go on my extended touring holiday.

Great news. Be interesting to know if the Corolla's wipers actually fit on the Prius without problem. I thought the entire arm was different.

Thanks for clarifying that. I'd hate to think we all dashed out to buy Corolla wipers as cheaper replacements, only to be sadly disappointed.

3rd and 4th gen wheels are interchangeable if I'm not mistaken.

..and the only difference could be that the gen3-4, are Atkinson, while the corolla, Otto cycle.

Interesting - TOYOTA publicity on the 2018 CAMRY says "... With an efficient 11.8:1 compression ratio and able to utilise both the Otto and Atkinson cycles for optimum performance and efficiency ...".

I'm trying to get my head around that - but I guess they know what they're doing.

It's been on Lexus vehicles for a couple of years now. They're able to run on Atkinson cycles on low load and switch back to Otto cycle when more oomph is needed.

    Does this help?

Thanks - the ongoing push of progress.

I do wonder about the Turbo - in the exhaust gas flow much of the time, how long the "CRAFTSMANSHIP FOR THE HIGHEST QUALITY" pattern on the Turbine Wheel will still be there in 50,000km? Or maybe it's a routine replacement item?

No idea. The NX has been out for 3 years so they're starting to come off lease. I suspect most people won't dip into the turbo too often to cause issues.
