it's a long story, but in a nutshell, southeast toyota is one of the original toyota dealers, and they tell toyota what to do, not the other way around. they prefer to sell pickup trucks and suvs.
secondly, you don't live in a carb state, so while prime supply is short, toyota does not need you.

I don't think Texas is considered part of the SE region, is it?

well, that's a good question. i'm not sure where to find that info.

so i googled it, and you are right. it seems you fall into another large conglomerate, gulf states toyota. i don't know anything about them, but i guess you fall into number two, and possibly number one.

GST (Gulf States Toyota) works the same as SE region. you get a Toyota the way they want it... not the other way around... Sort of...

SO, if you see an option from a Toyota in Tn... it might not be offered in Texas... also you will note you are not buying a Toyota from North America Toyota .....

On a BIT of a nit for me at least ... is that they add LOTS OF port pork.... extra options (paint protector, under body sealant...ect) in a take it or go find another car.... I know how to handle the Dealers on this..... These add ons can come to $1,000 added to the car price...

Somewhere on the WWW there is the story behind GST and SET from way back in the 1970's I think.

update: working in TN for now so I traded in a GST 2014 for a TN 2016 4 with all the goodies I wanted... some of these are not offered in Texas (GST)

I do think that proper language usage has gone downhill lately.

That's ok if you are familiar with it, but even then I've known auto-corrections to get their own way despite better intentions!

Too often even in a college staff environment I see loose instead of lose. One weird one is rouge instead of rogue.
I was referring to the general abuse of the language and not the unusual US way of spelling certain words.

I strongly suspect that if you wanted to invent a complex, literal language with idiosyncratic grammar, multiple homophones and words that although spelt the same mean completely different things, you would likely come up with something like the English language. I might cringe from time to time at some of my compatriots awful attempts, but I try not to be too critical. I like to think I'm smart enough to understand the meaning of what's being said, not just read the words. Now, can I get back to my slang, tautology, typos and other misdemeanours please?

Did we need you to tell us that? :D:ROFLMAO:(y)

I had a job working with those - unfortunately, I had a page limit (one page!!) on submissions I forwarded to my Director, so had to do severe weight-reducing surgery on the 3-6 page responses I was given by Managers.

I always find it interesting when people feel the need to pick a single word out of many posts that spell check changed to comment on when it adds nothing to the thread.

    I agree language is important.

I just shake my head at many of the comments on You Tube, for instance, that utilize no capitalization, punctuation does not exist, and basic sentence structure is unheard of. These are often the people with the most nasty things to say.

I would use Costco as a starting point for the purchase and then negotiate even further from there. I do not spend hours negotiating or let them wear me down. I also play many dealers against each other.

I actually enjoy negotiating with dealers - I have been known to walk out of many dealerships in my time. Amazing how powerful that act is. :)

@pjm877 gave an excellent explanation of our quandary in the Gulf and Southeast states. If I get to the point of being able to buy a new car, I'll likely be flying one way to the Northeast to get a Prime.

As to your concern about acceleration, my PiP does just fine passing. Traction control is the limiting factor from a dead stop. It will spin the tires, but only briefly. I had to punch it yesterday and got two chirps from the tires before backing off on the throttle. And the newer ones are even stronger.

Thank you. I'm not looking to race - I just want to know I am able to safely pass when needed.
