Second Gen Repair Manual I found is strangely devoid of PCV valve and hose info. It's mentioned, that's about it. It's there, and I'd assume feeding into the intake manifold? How do things look under throttle body on second gen, clean or?

Any car that has a pcv system that is spewing oil/water/fuel into the intake manifold is a candidate. When you google oil catch can on cars, you would be amazed at actually how many different cars are using them. As the gen2 pushes more miles with age it would have more blow-by from cylinder ring wear. This also includes diesel and gasoline combustion powered vehicles. Some car manufacturers are using what is called an oil separator (Landrover, Chevy, Ford, Bmw, Porsche etc) There is an obvious problem with how the pcv system works.

Bmw oil separator is in the timing chain cover.

I for one welcome our new OCC overlords o_O

Even recently thought of adding one myself (gen2) as I couldn't find mention of anyone else doing such on PriusChat.

My PCV appears to be fully functional (metallic rattle and clean) with the hose connecting it to the manifold being quite dry on either end. Now if there were specs for PCV testing with either a vacuum pump or an air pump, I could rule that out.

To verify need for OCC, see if you can get a look at the inside the intake manifold, near the PCV hose connection. On third gen the connection is a little "up hill" from the throttle body, and if you remove the air intake snorkel and push open the throttle body blade, you can see through to the low point of the intake manifold, and typically there will be a pool of gunk there.

Remove the throttle body and you get a much clearer view. At least on third gen this can be done with coolant hoses still connected.

The next escalation I guess, and I would only do this if seeing evidence of oil/water/fuel pooling, is to remove the intake manifold, clean it, and install an oil catch can along the PCV line.
